Book a ladies weekend in Sun Valley this year (we’re easy to get to!) and get ready for a little fun in the winter sun. Here’s how we’d do it:
Friday Afternoon
Arrive in Sun Valley, meet up with your favorite ladies, and check into your lodgings. The Limelight Hotel Ketchum is centrally located on Main Street and offers comfortable, sophisticated rooms and suites. They also have an airport shuttle to make your lives just that much easier.
Pro Tip: Head to the Sun Valley Wine Company for an extensive selection of vino from around the globe.
Once you’re settled in, ease into the weekend by checking out the vibrant art scene in downtown Ketchum. Don’t worry about needing a car, Ketchum is an entirely walkable town. Stop by Gail Severn, where you’ll find pieces by a mix of young, mid-career, and established artists working in all mediums. Gilman Contemporary and Friesen are great stops to see innovative, contemporary paintings and photography.
When the galleries close, make your way to Warfield Distillery & Brewery. Let the conversation flow while enjoying a hand-crafted cocktail or beer—brewed and distilled on-site—at their cozy bar.
For dinner, cross the street to Enoteca, the best place in town to grab European-style light bites while sipping a glass of Pinot Noir from their exceptional wine list.
Saturday Morning
Rise and shine, ladies! Join the locals for a cup of espresso at Maude’s, a small coffee shop and café with a vintage clothing shop attached. Once the caffeine hits your bloodstreams, head to Gather Yoga & Studio for an all-levels Vinyasa flow, or sweat out the toxins with hot Power Vinyasa.
The skiers and boarders in your group will no doubt want to head to Sun Valley’s Bald Mountain to take a few runs on the perfect groomers. If there are members of your squad who aren’t so into the downhill scene, a morning walk through the snow globe beauty of Sun Valley Resort will hit the spot.
Plan to meet at the Roundhouse on Bald Mountain for lunch. Skiers and boarders can get there on the trail, non-skiers can take the gondola up from the River Run Day Lodge. Enjoy fondue and wine with an eagle-eye view at the valley below and across to the towering Pioneer Mountains.
Saturday Afternoon
Spend the afternoon enjoying each other’s company and recuperating your bodies at Zenergy Health Club & Spa. Schedule 80-minute Hot Stone Massages and follow them up with a soak in the sublime outdoor saltwater hot tub.
Head back to the Limelight Hotel Ketchum for happy hour from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in their spacious lounge, then get ready for a night on the town. Snag reservations at Michel Christiania’s, a Ketchum institution, for a traditional French dinner, or get a table at The Covey for ever evolving, seasonally specific dishes.
Finish off a full day by dancing late into the night with your ladies at Whiskey Jacques, the go-to spot in town for live music or a DJ on Saturdays.
Sunday Morning
If your legs (and heads) will allow it, spend Sunday morning Nordic skiing or snowshoeing at the Sun Valley Nordic Center. Rentals and lessons are available on-site or make your own way around one of the scenic loop trails. Need a little hair-of-the-dog to get you moving? Stop by the Sun Valley Club (located at the Nordic Center) for a Clubhouse Bloody Mary with Absolut Pepper and Cajun-spiced rum.
Before you pack up and leave town, don’t miss the chance to stop by a few of the boutique goods and clothing shops that line the streets of downtown Ketchum. Timeless mountain-town style is available at Overland, and newcomer J. McLaughlin offers elegant classics. Independent Goods is an ideal spot to pick-up locally and regionally sourced artisan jewelry, apparel, art and more.
Grab some bites-to-go before you all get in the car or catch your flights home—a KB’s burrito or a sandwich from Bigwood Bread Café are local favorites.
