We anticipate seeing an increased number of adventures hitting the road in search of camping experiences this summer. Having the information of what is open, where high-usage areas are and making sure you have a 2nd, 3rd and even a 4th back-up plan for where to camp to have the best possible experience. For more information, we've created a series of resources to help everyone practice Mindfulness in the Mountains.

There are a number of great options with overnight camping available in sites near Sun Valley, Ketchum and Stanley. Most sites are on a first-come, first-served basis, however the Sawtooth National Recreation Area offers a selection of campgrounds that can be reserved in advance.

The Sawtooth National Forest offers a variety of camping experiences for visitors:

  • Developed campgrounds offer facilities and amenities, usually for a fee;
  • Primitive camping opportunities offer free sites in undeveloped areas; and
  • Backcountry camping is available in wilderness areas.
