After a day on the slopes, or a day at the spa, there’s nothing like lounging next to a roaring fireplace as the snow falls outside. Whether you’re in the company of friends and family, or a good book, the warmth of a well-built fire fills the heart. Here are our favorite places to sit by the fire in Ketchum and Sun Valley.
Limelight Hotel
Limelight Hotel’s expansive lobby—perfect for a cocktail, a game of cards, a couple hours of work, or hanging out with your favorite person—welcomes visitors with two glass-fronted fireplaces. Sip a drink, taste an appetizer, and let the flames melt away all your worries.
Sun Valley Wine Company
The Sun Valley Wine Company, in Ketchum’s Town Square, is a wine shop, bar and light fare restaurant. Browse the racks for a great bottle of wine to share, or order a single pour at the bar. A selection of chilled beer is also available. Settle into the couch in front of the stone fireplace and munch on a cheese plate as you warm your toes.
Sawtooth Club
Hemingway knew how to while away the hours at a beloved bar, telling a good yarn. And his favorite haunt in Ketchum was the Sawtooth Club: a rustic, intimate restaurant on Main Street. Plush couches surround a fire whose mantle is home to Hemingway artifacts. Enjoy American steakhouse classics and, bar none, the best happy hour in town. Raise a glass to Papa at this Ketchum institution.
The Community Library
Sure, it is a quieter way to enjoy a fire, but it is hard to beat The Community Library’s double sided stone fireplace. Make yourself at home in one of the chairs that wraps you up like a hug. Read a newspaper or magazine. Utilize Ketchum’s fastest Wi-Fi internet. Brush up on your Hemingway history. Work on the group puzzle. Or simply relax and watch the flames.
Knob Hill Inn
Step into the Knob Hill Inn and find a cozy place to sit. Whether you are enjoying each other’s company or grabbing a drink at the bar, this is a can’t-miss spot in town.
Hotel Ketchum
Modern design and sheepy décor await those who nestle into the retro orange settee in Hotel Ketchum’s lobby. Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase an imposing view of the snow-covered ski slopes on Sun Valley’s Bald Mountain, and a roaring fire casts shadows on furry ottomans. Grab a drink from Barrio75 or a bite to eat from Ramen Cowboy and enjoy the warmth by the fireplace
River Run Day Lodge
Whether you clocked 20,000 vertical feet or 0 vertical feet on the slopes, snag a spot by the imposing fireplace at River Run Day Lodge in Ketchum. Order your favorite cocktail and grab a plate of artisan pizza before slipping into one of the leather chairs. Or live like a local with a tall boy of PBR and a plate of French fries. Either way, enjoy the free live music on weekend afternoons.
