Neighborly Spanish is a free, 8-week class taught on Mondays from noon-1:30 PM by retired local Spanish teacher Jim King. The class will offer basic Spanish language skills seasoned with a little history and culture. Enrollment limited to 20. Classes are on Mondays, starting January 22 through March 18. Wanderlust: The Eastern Himalaya – Wildflower Diversity, Conservation & Tibetan Traditional Knowledge

The Hailey Public Library and the Wood River Chapter – Idaho Native Plant Society will co-host “Wanderlust: The Eastern Himalaya – Wildflower Diversity, Conservation & Tibetan Traditional Knowledge” with conservation ecologist Bob Moseley on Thursday, March 21 at 5:30 PM. Retired from a decades-long career with The Nature Conservancy, Moseley will share gorgeous images and discuss an area considered the most floristically diverse temperate ecosystem on earth. He’ll also examine cultural uses and traditions of ethnic groups of the region. Part of HPL’s Wanderlust series, the free talk will be held at Town Center West, 7 W Croy, and live streamed.

Free Range Poetry Night

The Hailey Public Library and the newly-formed Free Range Poetry Society will host their 2nd poetry night on Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West. The free event celebrates the power and importance of poetry and helps kick off Poetry Month in April. Free Range poets have permission to roam wherever the words take them and readers will include Florence Blanchard, Ted Dyer, Sue Bailey, John Fox, Susan Fierman, Les Shanahan, Andrea Pierceall and Cit Ananda.

Wanderlust: Hiking the Great Rift

The Hailey Public Library will host Hiking the Great Rift, a talk by retired park ranger Ted Stout and part of the Wanderlust series inviting the community to travel the world, virtually. In 2014 Ted and a few friends embarked on a week-long expedition across the forbidding terrain of Craters of the Moon National Monument. The talk, featuring stunning images by local photographer Craig Wolfrom, will be held Thursday, April 4, at 5:30 PM at Town Center West, 7 W Croy, and live streamed.

ADULT WORKSHOP: Shibori Scarves

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Los Angeles-based artists Tanya Aguiñiga and Natalie M. Godinez of AMBOS will teach various shibori dye techniques. Shibori, a traditional Japanese form of dying, allows makers to create beautiful and intricate patterns on fabric. With guidance from the artists, participants will leave the workshop with a shibori wool scarf of their own design. About AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides) A femme-led binational artist collaborative that works along the U.S./Mexico border to build migrant support systems through craft, care, and mutual aid to advance pro-migrant narratives. Co-presented by SVMoA and The Alliance of Idaho. Part of SVMoA’s exhibition Intertwined: Weaving in Community.
