Strap on some snowshoes and check out the Sawtooth National Recreation Area’s winter wonderland! Learn about the history of the Galena Lodge area and the magical landscape of winter ecology and animal tracking. January 5th – March 23 – Snowshoe with a Ranger every Thursday at 11 am. Meet on the porch of Galena Lodge. Program lasts about 2 hours and covers 1.5 miles with stops along the way. Rent snowshoes online ahead of time from Galena Lodge (see below). To register for the tour call SNRA at 208-727-5000. Each tour will be limited to 10 people. Dress warmly in layers and wear insulated boots, gloves, hat, sunglasses and mask.

BCRD Ski Free Day!
For four days this season, BCRD welcomes the community to enjoy free Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails. The 32-kilometer multi-use Wood River Trail, which runs from Ketchum to Bellevue, is always free. The Wood River Trail is groomed every other day and is open to skiers, walkers, dogs, and fat-bikes. The Ski Free Days for the 2023/24 season are: Saturday, December 9 Sunday, January 7 Saturday, February 24 Wednesday, March 27
Papoose Club’s Kindercup
Fun, Free Downhill Race for Kids! Started by the original founders back in 1957, this fun ski and snow board event is for non-sanctioned racers ages 3 to 12. It is held at Sun Valley’s Dollar Mountain in the spring, usually in March. The event attracts up to 250 skiers who all earn commemorative pins. The Olympic gold medal winner Picabo Street was a Kindercup champion! Other famous Sun Valley area skiers to have been past Kindercup champions include: Langely McNeal, Graham Watanabe, Wyatt Caldwell and more!
