FILM: 2023 MANHATTAN SHORT Film Fest

For the 6th year, the Sun Valley Museum of Art presents the MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival. From September 28 through October 8, this unique festival brings together over 100,000 filmgoers in over 500 cities and towns across 6 continents. The Festival curates a wide variety of films from around the world, and the jury includes ALL film attendees from around the globe, including our Ketchum audience! The Ten MANHATTAN SHORT Finalists hail from eight countries, with films from Australia, Afghanistan, Finland, Iran, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Canada, alongside three films from the USA. The 2023 line-up is linked by a common theme: how we face adversity, whether it is imposed by others or arises from personal circumstances. “To Taste Life Twice” Seminar

Join The Community Library and Story Forward for three days of writing, reading, and connecting over words. All events are free! Some events require pre-registration. The seminar opens at the Library on Thursday evening, May 18, at 6:00 p.m. with “Reader’s Corner,” a talk by Bob Kustra, the host of Reader’s Corner on Boise State Public Radio and BSU President Emeritus & Professor of Public Service. Reader’s Corner is a weekly radio show and podcast featuring lively conversations with leading writers, including many winners of top literary prizes and best-selling authors. Kustra will discuss his interviews and their issues and ideas that matter today. All are welcome, through registration is recommended to save your seat. On Friday, attendees can register to attend one of two afternoon breakouts: “Capturing the Unsung Power of Point of View in Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry” with Christian Winn, or “Untangling the Difficult Narrative: Using Form, Language, and Self-Care to Access Our Wounds” with Rebecca Evans. Sheep have been trailing through the Wood River Valley of Idaho for well over a century and are an integral part of Idaho’s heritage. Each fall the iconic Trailing of the Sheep Festival honors the 150+ year annual tradition of moving sheep (‘trailing’) from high mountain summer pastures down through the Valley to traditional winter grazing and lambing areas in the south.
