Holiday Spirit with Footlight Dancers
Footlight Dance will be spreading holiday cheer as they bring a performance to the Senior Connection in Hailey, on Thursday, December 12, performing at 12:20 pm. This is part of Footlight Dances’ Community Outreach program presented free of charge. Our Intermediate Ballet 3/4 and Tap 2/3 students will be performing. Our performers attend Blaine County Middle and High Schools. Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director, Robyn Fox & Mackenzie King, faculty, have choreographed holiday dances that will entertain and bring cheer to one and all. This season we will also be joined by student musicians who study with the Sun Valley Music Festival School of Music – performing holiday classics. “Dance is an art form that warms the heart when children are dancing,” says director Hilarie Neely. “The students look forward to the holiday season and dancing for our community Seniors.” The seasonal tap and ballet pieces are sure to get your spirits ready for the holidays.
“Undertow”: An Idaho-Inspired Dance
Join The Community Library for a conversation with Dana Genshaft, a distinguished figure in the dance world, renowned for her multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, and educator. Genshaft was a Writer-in-Residence at the Hemingway House with The Community Library in June 2024, in partnership with Ballet Sun Valley (BSV). During her time in residency, she began developing a new piece for BSV: “Undertow,” which was performed at the company’s October performance at The Argyros with San Francisco Ballet Pre-Professional Dancers. Genshaft will be in conversation with the library’s executive director, Jenny Emery Davidson, about her residency, how she begins to choreograph a new piece, and working with dancers to bring the vision to the stage. They’ll also share a recording of the October performance of Undertow (9 minutes) during their conversation.
LITERACY/CREATIVITY – Footlight Dance Company
Footlight Dance Company’s 2024-25 Dance Enrichment Tour in our Schools will take place January 23 – February 4, 2025. A free community performance will take place – Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus – Hailey, Idaho. 7:00 pm Our program this year is entitled “LITERACY – CREATIVITY”. Our performance tour will address the importance of reading to tell our stories of the past, present and future. Under the direction of Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director of Footlight Dance Company, the dancers will use the genres of ballet, modern, tap, jazz and hip hop dance to interpret the power of reading. Our hope is to bring awareness of how movement, visual arts, and reading work together to share and connect us through story telling. We are also excited to be working with The Community Library, Children’s Library on this project. Both DeAnn Campbell and Haley Christianson are working outreaches to local schools that will include curriculum resources to enhance student responses.
