Jake Maurer Band- Whiskey’s on Main

You won’t want to miss this Nashville star! June 28th, 2024 | 21+ | 8:00pm $15 at the door A product of the heartland – Metamora, Illinois – Jake Maurer has been headlining at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge in Nashville since 2007. Inspired by other artists such as Pat Green, Jake played some of his favorite “Red Dirt” Texas country songs sitting around the campfire in college. These staples, still some of his friends’ favorites, eventually inspired him to pick up a pen and start putting some thoughts to music. A singer-songwriter, husband, and father of five, Jake also plays acoustic guitar and entertains with the best of them. He loves to engage a crowd and make people laugh by saying just about anything that pops into his mind. The more ridiculous, the better. Jake expands his tour every year and performs regularly at several festivals including the “Hawgarama” in Regina, Saskatchewan (7th year), the “Black Tie Tail Gate – We Care for Kids” fundraiser in Ontario (3rd year), and the “Summer Roundup” for Intermountain Children’s Home in Kalispell, Montana (3rd year). According to Jack Hanna of the Outdoor Channel, Jake is “a true cowboy who knows how to entertain.”

A joint show by two sisters who are inspired by the beauty and importance of preserving wilderness areas. Cubby West Spain is a painter who uses line and shape to find and define forms in the landscape. Working with gouache, watercolor, acrylic and oils, Spain paints subjects such as western landscapes and the American buffalo employing her distinct use of pattern and intentional brush strokes. Ansley West Rivers is an artist whose photographic practice focuses on the intersection of landscape and humanity. For the past ten years, Rivers has been photographing American rivers including her own watershed in Idaho’s Teton Valley. Using historical photographic techniques and a large format film camera, she layers several shots on each piece of film with masking made in camera to create an expansion on the singular landscape image. EZRA SIEGEL

Ezra Siegel has spent over thirty years exploring forms, shapes and paint surfaces to create something that is both simple and complex. His paintings are both empty and full, ordered yet improvised. With multiple layers of washes and thin paint, Siegel’s work is full of nuanced color and tone. His work suggests a minimalist approach but exhibits a human touch in the hope that the viewer can experience beauty through imperfection and subtlety. Opening Night Reception with artist on Friday, August 2nd from 5:00-7:30PM

24 hours with a Local: Wendy Jaquet

You may know the name Wendy Jaquet from her eighteen years in the state legislature (she’s a former Democratic representative, minority leader, and budget committee member), but Wendy has played many roles in the Wood River Valley, and beyond. She and her husband, Jim, moved to Ketchum from San Francisco in 1977, as Jim had been hired as city administrator for the City of Ketchum. Soon Wendy found herself dabbling in a variety of roles, from president of her two sons’ school PTA to managing an art gallery, to managing the Wagon Days parade (which she did for twenty-five years, and still announces for), to being executive director of the Sun Valley/Ketchum Chamber of Commerce for thirteen years. In 1994 she decided to run for the state legislature, which she did full time until 2012, when she began teaching foundational studies and intro to public administration at Boise State University. Tired of the commute to Boise, she quit teaching but has remained busy ever since, serving on the board of Visit Sun Valley and the advisory council of the Trailing of the Sheep, giving historical tours of downtown Ketchum, coordinating the Resort Cities Coalition for the City of Ketchum, participating …
