Graham Nash – Sixty Years of Songs and Stories

SOLD OUT! Thank you, Ketchum Legendary artist Graham Nash, as a founding member of both the Hollies and Crosby, Stills and Nash, is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He has seen rock history unfold at some of its seminal moments – from the launch of the British Invasion to the birth of the Laurel Canyon movement a year later. An extraordinary Grammy Award® winning renaissance artist – and self-described “simple man” – Nash was inducted twice into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, for his work with CSN and his work as a solo artist. Towering above virtually everything that Graham Nash has accomplished in his long and multi-faceted career stands the litany of songs that he has written and introduced to the soundtrack of our lives for nearly six decades. Nash’s remarkable body of work began with his contributions to the Hollies opus from 1964 to ’68, including “Stop Stop Stop,” “On A Carousel,” and “King Midas In Reverse,” among others. The original classic union of Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young) lasted but twenty months. Yet, their songs are lightning rods embedded in our DNA, starting with Nash’s “Marrakesh Express,” “Pre-Road Downs,” and “Lady of …

The Amazing World of Native Bees

Hailey Public Library will buzz into spring with a free talk about ‘The Amazing World of Native Bees’ with educator and forester Linda Ries on Thursday, March 23, 5:30-7:00 PM at Town Center West. The talk is co-sponsored with the Wood River Chapter of the Idaho Native Plant Society. Native bees are a primary pollinator for agricultural crops. However, these fascinating creatures are in decline all over the United States as a result of loss of habitat, toxins and disease. The good news is that there’s much we can do in our own backyards to help them out.  But first we need to learn more about the unique natural history and lifestyle of the species who live here.

Learning from Peer Communities: Housing Lessons and Opportunities with Park City, Utah’s Housing Development Manager

In 2017, Jason Glidden launched the Affordable Housing Department of Park City as its first Housing Development Manager, focusing on programs to create affordable housing in the Park City area. He spent the previous decade developing programs and projects that help communities thrive as Park City’s Economic Development and Business Development Manager. Jason holds a master’s in business administration. In many respects, the Park City area is a peer community and as such has similar struggles. Jason will describe these struggles and successes, what makes resort communities’ housing challenges unique, and what solutions and tools work well there. One such solution is deed-restricting housing units to people who live and/or work in the area and by income – which can be accomplished with a range of tools. Other initiatives include public-private partnerships to further housing development, land management code amendments, and a seasonal employee housing program. Jason Glidden will be joined by Carissa Connelly, Housing Director of the City of Ketchum. Ketchum is implementing its year-one Housing Action Plan adopted May 2022, which includes many actions that mirror Park City’s efforts. This program will be livestreamed and available to watch later. In collaboration with the Spur Community Foundation.

Barcelona Flamenco Ballet

The Argyros welcomes back Barcelona Flamenco Ballet (BFB) and their production of New Time/Flamenco Reborn. In an all new show, BFB fuses three dance styles with which we are all familiar – jazz, contemporary, and, of course, flamenco – creating a tension so electric, the metallic tapping sounds of the dancers footwork endure in one’s ears, leaving us questioning: What does it mean to be ‘reborn’? One interpretation of ‘reborn’ is that of reconstruction. The dancers constantly reconstruct the ambiances they produce onstage, building up a rhythm with repetitive motions – and then break it, instantly stopping, rupturing the established order, then beginning again. In this way, the rhythm itself is ‘reborn’ – constantly renewing the dynamics of the performance, keeping it fresh and alive. Witness the drama of BFB, from the exuberant outpourings of passion to quiet moments of intimacy in this constantly changing display of reinvention.

Yesterday and Today

Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience is the nation’s most innovative and unique show utilizing the works of the Beatles. The band, anchored by brothers Billy, Matthew, and Ryan McGuigan perform as themselves and leave the song choices completely in the hands of the audience. Just prior to the show, audience members fill out a card with their name, their favorite Beatles song, and the reason why they chose that song. Two minutes before the show begins, a set list is created based upon the songs chosen by the audience. As an added treat, the reasons that the audience members chose those songs make up the narrative of the evening. Every show is different, every show is interactive, and every show proves that The Beatles music truly is the soundtrack to our lives.
