Friesen+Lantz Fine Art presents a bold new body of work from encaustic artist Suzanne Hazlett. Encaustic painting is a technique dating back to the Greeks, blending fire with wax and pigment to fuse the material with a rigid surface. “I am a rock climber and a stargazer seeking a balance between celestial inspiration and earthly reality,” says Hazlett. “Incorporated in this collection are influences from stone, land formations, skyscapes, and atmosphere, as well as stars and nebulae.”"This is a rare body of work in an artist’s career—one that unequivocally marks a dramatic expansion in their craft and the beginning of an exciting chapter," Friesen+Lantz Owner/Director Yanna Lantz says. "Hazlett is pushing the boundaries of encaustic in her inventive forms, incredible depth and combinations of colors that transport viewers to another realm." For twelve years the Golden State Killer terrorized California, stalking victims and killing without remorse. Then he simply disappeared, for the next forty-four years, until an amateur DNA sleuth opened her laptop. In "I Know Who You Are: How An Amateur DNA Sleuth Unmasked The Golden State Killer And Changed Crime Fighting Forever," Barbara Rae-Venter reveals how she went from researching her family history as a retiree to hunting for a notorious serial killer—and how she became the nation’s leading authority on investigative genetic genealogy, the most dazzling new crime-fighting weapon to appear in decades. Rae-Venter leads readers on a vivid journey through the many cases she tackled, often starting with little more than a DNA sample. From the first criminal case she ever solved to the search for the Golden State Killer, Rae-Venter shares haunting, often thrilling accounts of how she helped solve some of America’s most chilling cold cases in the span of just three years. "I Know Who You Are" captures both the exhilaration of the moment of discovery and the sheer depth of emotion that lingers around cold cases, informing Rae-Venter’s careful approach to her work. It is a story of relentless curiosity, of constant invention ...

Welcome to the Janss Pro-Am Classic Celebrating our 24th Janss Pro-Am this year is due to the stalwart support of participants, partners, pros, sponsors and volunteers since 1998. Named to the 1940 Olympic Alpine Team, Janss remained a lifetime enthusiast and supporter of skiing and ski racing until his death in 1996. Years later, Phil noticed a new tree growing on the land a coffee tree seeded by natural fauna, it was this moment that the idea of ulu was born. Learning from neighbors how ...

Local author Jamie Truppi discusses her new memoir Clean Food, Messy Life: A food lover's conscious journey back to self. Book signing with Iconoclast Books to follow. The program will be livestreamed and available to watch later. Click here to watch online. About the book: All who obsess over food will be nourished by Truppi’s unapologetic food journey from reckless habits to inflexible foodie to trusting herself amidst dietary chaos. Yes, she drove people nuts with her unwavering determination to eat according to her environmental values. Her insatiable hunger for personal awareness and nutrient-idealism challenged her relationships and caused friction in otherwise normal life events. This passion also reframed her mind-body-spirit awareness and fed a desire to pursue a graduate degree in nutrition and integrative health. In this constant questioning of choices and inherent craving for something more, food both grounded and uplifted her through love and loss, marriage and motherhood, birth and death, fulfillment and depletion, adventure and freedom. Jamie Truppi’s life centers around food, people, nature, wellbeing, traveling, and cultivating meaningful experiences in this short, crazy life. A functional nutritionist with a master’s degree in science and nutrition and board certified as a Certified Nutrition Specialist, she guides mostly women healing from ...
Created in Alaska, and as unique as that state is, Parlor in the Round is an evening of storytelling and creativity from musicians including host Keven Worrell who forge songs on stage from audience suggestions. In the first half of the show, songwriters from Idaho and beyond will play their own songs and cover each other's songs, then, after intermission, the musicians dive into collaborations, jocular inventions and premeditated musings all based on written submissions from the audience. Expect to lean in and laugh out loud at the Parlor.
Yesterday and Today: The Interactive Beatles Experience is the nation’s most innovative and unique show utilizing the works of the Beatles. The band, anchored by brothers Billy, Matthew, and Ryan McGuigan perform as themselves and leave the song choices completely in the hands of the audience. Just prior to the show, audience members fill out a card with their name, their favorite Beatles song, and the reason why they chose that song. Two minutes before the show begins, a set list is created based upon the songs chosen by the audience. As an added treat, the reasons that the audience members chose those songs make up the narrative of the evening. Every show is different, every show is interactive, and every show proves that The Beatles music truly is the soundtrack to our lives.

The blank page can be scary, because we often don’t know how or where to start. Even the most seasoned writers panic at the dreaded blinking cursor—you’re not alone! Writing can feel like fumbling through a dark, unfamiliar room, but, good news, that’s part of the magic of great storytelling. In this workshop, we’ll embrace the chaos and uncertainty. Through tips, prompts, and the wisdom and struggle of fellow writers (Kafka once wrote in his diary: “Again tried to write, virtually useless.”), you’ll learn how to fumble confidently, even joyfully, toward the light. We’ll also discuss practical steps for creating and sustaining a writing practice. Whether you’re embarking on a novel, memoir, short story, or journaling, you’ll walk away knowing EXACTLY what to do—no, just kidding! You’ll walk away accepting that no one, not even , knows exactly what to do, which, in turn, will free you of fear and free you to write. Margaret Meehan is the 2023 Writing by Writers Writer-In-Residence at the Hemingway House. Meehan's short stories have been published in Fence, Joyland, and Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading. Join us for the final show of the season! The regional premiere of MEDICINE by ENDA WALSH, April 20–30 @ The Spot. The blackbox theater located at 220 Lewis Street #2, Ketchum, ID 83340. SHOW DESCRIPTION: John Kane is sitting on a hospital gurney, and very shortly a jazz percussionist, two women called Mary, a very old man and a giant lobster will arrive. Then everything will start. Medicine is a dark and frequently absurdist work that shatters the boundary between cast and audience. It is a devastatingly funny and moving meditation on how, for decades, we have treated those we have called ‘mentally ill’. Medicine, a Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival production, received its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2021 prior to its opening at GIAF 2021 in September and New York transfer to St. Ann’s Warehouse in November. The Spot's production will be the show's regional premiere in the U.S. and the first performance by a new company of actors. (The world premiere was written for and created with the original cast.) Join us for the final show of the season! (The world premiere was written for and created with the original cast.) In 2017, Jason Glidden launched the Affordable Housing Department of Park City as its first Housing Development Manager, focusing on programs to create affordable housing in the Park City area. He spent the previous decade developing programs and projects that help communities thrive as Park City’s Economic Development and Business Development Manager. Jason holds a master’s in business administration. In many respects, the Park City area is a peer community and as such has similar struggles. Jason will describe these struggles and successes, what makes resort communities’ housing challenges unique, and what solutions and tools work well there. One such solution is deed-restricting housing units to people who live and/or work in the area and by income – which can be accomplished with a range of tools. Other initiatives include public-private partnerships to further housing development, land management code amendments, and a seasonal employee housing program. Jason Glidden will be joined by Carissa Connelly, Housing Director of the City of Ketchum. Ketchum is implementing its year-one Housing Action Plan adopted May 2022, which includes many actions that mirror Park City’s efforts. This program will be livestreamed and available to watch later. In collaboration with the Spur Community Foundation.
The Argyros welcomes back Barcelona Flamenco Ballet (BFB) and their production of New Time/Flamenco Reborn. In an all new show, BFB fuses three dance styles with which we are all familiar – jazz, contemporary, and, of course, flamenco – creating a tension so electric, the metallic tapping sounds of the dancers footwork endure in one’s ears, leaving us questioning: What does it mean to be ‘reborn’? One interpretation of ‘reborn’ is that of reconstruction. The dancers constantly reconstruct the ambiances they produce onstage, building up a rhythm with repetitive motions – and then break it, instantly stopping, rupturing the established order, then beginning again. In this way, the rhythm itself is ‘reborn’ – constantly renewing the dynamics of the performance, keeping it fresh and alive. Witness the drama of BFB, from the exuberant outpourings of passion to quiet moments of intimacy in this constantly changing display of reinvention.
