From Van Gogh's vibrant still lifes to the intricate floral patterns in traditional Japanese woodblock prints, flowers have been often depicted in art to convey profound emotions and meditate on our connection to the natural world across time periods. This group exhibition will feature artists that consider art's floral history and play with the flower as subject. Included are the intricate graphite drawings of Maggie Shafran, large scale photography by Laura McPhee, and oil paintings by Kathy Moss and Diane Andrews Hall. Visit www.gailseverngallery.com or call (208) 726-5079 for hours of operation.
This group exhibition celebrates the various means by which artists achieve texture and movement within their work. Pegan Brooke’s oil paintings both minimalist and monochromatic, mimic the atmospheric qualities of water through the use of metallic pigments and staccato brushstrokes. Abstract painter, Raphaëlle Goethals is known for her signature layered encaustic and sophisticated minimalism, fusing to create non-representational masterpieces. Her works are void of any sense of gravity, with emphasis on light, texture, and emotive color. Working with the simplest of materials, fiber artist Lisa Kokin explores texture using cord and threads. Embedding found and recycled materials into industrial felt, Kokin playfully arranges seemingly disparate materials. Visit www.gailseverngallery.com or call (208) 726-5079 for hours of operation.
This group exhibition explores the artistic interpretation of our lands by three nationally renowned painters: Theodore Waddell, James Cook and Michael Gregory. For Cook, thickly painted oils work as epic and expressive interpretation of our landscapes, many of which depict The Sawtooths and surrounding mountain ranges. Michael Gregory’s iconic paintings of barns and homesteads reflect the beauty of isolation found in the Western American Landscape. Also included are Laura McPhee’s large-format photographs and Gwynn Murrill's lively bronze-sculpted animals. Visit www.gailseverngallery.com or call (208) 726-5079 for hours of operation.
Andrzej Skorut was born and spent his early years in Krakow, Poland before immigrating to the U.S. in 1987. At first glance his paintings appear to be simple landscapes but further study reveals that they are as abstract as they are representational. He reveals concealed depths within his surfaces through layers of paint and glaze, which he then partially removes with rags, sticks and other objects. Born and raised in Montana, Mark Gibson originally trained in architecture. This formal training had a direct effect on the architectural forms of the teepees that characterize his work. Gibson has been pushing himself to focus on purity of color and masterful composition, working to move the viewer’s eye around the entire piece. Most recently he has been working on increasing the scale of his works, which has contributed to his achievement of creating a powerful mood and atmosphere in each painting. Swedish artist Gunnar Tryggmo is inspired by animals and birds in their natural habitat. The values, mood and moment are the most important elements in the treatment of his contemporary watercolors.

Sun Valley Playwright's Residency in partnership with The Argyros & The Community Library presents THE TREASURER A Play Reading Written & Directed by Max Posner Featuring David Janeski, Billie McBride, Shonda Royall, and Jeremy Shamos MacArthur “Genius” and Idaho native Samuel D. Hunter (The Whale; A Case for the Existence of God) leads a conversation with Sun Valley Playwright's Residency's 2024-2025 Resident Playwright Max Posner followed by a reading of Posner’s hit Off Broadway play, The Treasurer, featuring Wood River Valley-based David Janeski (Gruesome Playground Injuries), Colorado Theatre Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Billie McBride (Torch Song Trilogy), Shonda Royall (Clyde’s at Boise Contemporary Theater), and Obie Award Winner and Tony Award nominee Jeremy Shamos (Here We Are; Clybourne Park). Ida Armstrong is broke, lonely, and fading fast. And she’s spending all of her children’s money, forcing her son to assume the unwanted role of The Treasurer: an arrangement that becomes untenable the more he questions his devotion to her. This darkly funny, sharply intimate portrait chronicles the strained ties between a son and his aging mother, and the hell of a guilty conscience.

Ketchum Town Square was unveiled in 2010 as a vibrant and interactive space where the community could gather, socialize, and participate in various activities. Since then, it has become part of Ketchum’s social fabric, hosting countless events—big and small—and welcoming residents and visitors alike for coffee breaks or to sit by the fire after a day on the slopes. However, some of its infrastructure and amenities have deteriorated or are out-of-date. The city is evaluating plans to replace or upgrade parts of Town Square to keep it vibrant for years to come. Your input is invaluable to determining project priorities. Enjoy snacks and drinks and learn more about what needs to be upgraded at Town Square, why, and potential improvements plans. Your feedback will be collected and presented at the next City Council meeting later in October. RSVP at participate@ketchumidaho.org or call 208.726.3841 with questions

SVMoA Members are invited by the Museum's curators for a preview and tour of the exhibitions In Conversation: Will Wilson and Portraits of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, Past & Present prior to the Opening Celebration. In Conversation: Will Wilson features tintype portraits Diné artist Will Wilson has made as part of his ongoing project Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX). A direct response to the work of 20th-century photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis (1868–1952), whose photographs are also included in the exhibition, Wilson’s CIPX offers a critique of Curtis’s 20-volume The North American Indian (1907-1930), which was created to capture the supposed vanishing race of Native Americans. Curtis’ photographs simplified and romanticized Native American life. In contrast, Wilson has created rich, complex portraits that center Indigenous perspectives. Portraits of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, Past & Present explores portraits of members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes made at the turn of the 20th century and today. In 1895, the Danish American photographer Benedicte Wrensted arrived in Pocatello, Idaho, where she established a photography studio. Among her clients were members of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes whose portraits Wrensted took until leaving Idaho in 1912. Unlike Edward Curtis, Wrensted invited her sitters to present themselves as they wished, and ...
