Suzanne Hazlett | Moving Heaven & Earth

Friesen+Lantz Fine Art presents a bold new body of work from encaustic artist Suzanne Hazlett. Encaustic painting is a technique dating back to the Greeks, blending fire with wax and pigment to fuse the material with a rigid surface. “I am a rock climber and a stargazer seeking a balance between celestial inspiration and earthly reality,” says Hazlett. “Incorporated in this collection are influences from stone, land formations, skyscapes, and atmosphere, as well as stars and nebulae.”"This is a rare body of work in an artist’s career—one that unequivocally marks a dramatic expansion in their craft and the beginning of an exciting chapter," Friesen+Lantz Owner/Director Yanna Lantz says. "Hazlett is pushing the boundaries of encaustic in her inventive forms, incredible depth and combinations of colors that transport viewers to another realm." 24th Annual Janss Pro-Am Classic

The ‘greatest party on snow’ will return yet again in its 24th iteration for 2023! Welcome to the Janss Pro-Am Classic Celebrating our 24th Janss Pro-Am this year is due to the stalwart support of participants, partners, pros, sponsors and volunteers since 1998. Thanks to the efforts of many, we are still honoring the memory of Bill Janss and instilling his legacy and love for the sport of skiing into the lives of young people through our world-class coaching, facilities and, of course, the wonderful mountains and valley we inhabit. www.svsef.org/events/24th-annual-janss-pro-am-classic/ The Janss Pro-Am Classic is held in memory of Mr. Bill Janss. A true renaissance man, Janss embodied the best qualities of the American spirit. He was dynamic, intelligent, fearless and kind, and had the vision and strength of character to boldly take Sun Valley Resort to the next level after purchasing it in 1964. Named to the 1940 Olympic Alpine Team, Janss remained a lifetime enthusiast and supporter of skiing and ski racing until his death in 1996. Because of Bill – his attributes, ethos and commitment to our community – the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation is proud to host the Janss Pro-Am Classic in his honor.

Nature Journaling with Leslie Rego

The Community Library415 Spruce Ave, Ketchum

An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. This weekly drop-in workshop offers a welcoming and supportive space for both beginners and seasoned sketchers to draw together. Focus will be on nature journaling, but any type of drawing is welcome. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. Leslie will also show nature journals kept by different artists for inspiration. For supplies bring a current sketchbook, if you are working in one, travel-size water color set and brush, or just a pencil or pen and paper. Leslie Rego has drawn in journals for years. She carries sketchbooks and paints with her while enjoying the national forest and will take time to draw and paint landscapes and flowers on her many hikes. Leslie wrote the "Sketchbook Hiking" article in The Weekly Sun for many years. She has artwork in private collections, The Sun Valley Lodge and around the world.
