EVENING EXHIBITION TOUR: Bodies of Work: Art & Healing
Sun Valley Museum of ArtEnjoy a preview and tour of the exhibition with the Museum’s curator. Bodies of Work features artwork by contemporary artists who have used their practices as ways of navigating and processing their personal experience of medical illness as well as the experiences of others. Working in a range of media and from widely varying points of view, participating artists include Dylan Mortimer, Estelle L. Roberge, Katherine Sherwood, and Renee Stout with new work by Katherine Shaughnessy and Heather Watkins. Refreshments will be served in the Museum classroom prior to the start of the tour.

Sawtooth Botanical GardenWhat: Enjoy an intimate “farm to greenhouse” meal with wine, outdoor fire pits, hosted “snow bar” and telescopes for night sky viewing with local astronomers & experts (prepare to bundle up!) Classic Flicks at the Library
Hailey Town Center WestThe Hailey Public Library is launching Classic Flicks, a monthly series of free screenings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. The series will kick off on Thursday, January 11, at 6:00 PM at Town Center West with a 1941 classic film noir staring Humphrey Bogart as private detective Sam Spade. The movie is filled with murder and intrigue and is based on a 1930 novel by Dashiell Hammett.

Art Exhibition: Bodies of Work: Art & Healing
Sun Valley Museum of ArtThe notion that making and experiencing the arts can be healing has a long history. At the beginning of the 20th century, tuberculosis patients “taking the cure” at sanatoria often participated in structured arts and crafts programs. Wounded soldiers recuperating during World War II were taught “lap crafts,” such as beading and embroidery, as part of their medical therapy. The arts have served as powerful medicine for both mind and body for centuries. When planning for this exhibition considering the connection between art and healing began, the Covid-19 pandemic was dominating headlines around the globe. How do the arts help us process and/or recover from medical illness? How can they help us navigate the complex experience of what it is to be a medical patient facing serious illness in the 21st century? And how can art help us heal from other kinds of social and emotional trauma? Dark Sky Snowshoe
Sawtooth NRA HeadquartersJoin Idaho Conservation League, U.S. Forest Service & astronomers from the Idaho Dark Sky Alliance for a dark sky snowshoe at the Sawtooth National Recreation Area Headquarters! We’ll meet for refreshments in the parking lot, go for a gentle .5 mile out-and-back snowshoe (weather dependent) up North Fork road for some naked-eye stargazing, and return to the parking lot for hot chocolate. If you’re interested, please register via Eventbrite or the ICL website! Note on weather: Wish on the stars for snow! If we do not have enough snow for snowshoeing, we’ll take a gentle stroll up North Fork Canyon Road.
