New York Philharmonic String Quartet

The New York Philharmonic String Quartet comprises four Principal musicians from the Orchestra: Concertmaster, Frank Huang; Principal Second Violin, Qianqian Li; Principal Viola, Cynthia Phelps; and Principal Cello, Carter Brey. All four members are multiple prize winners, have appeared as concerto soloists with the Philharmonic and orchestras around the world, and have appeared frequently in the Philharmonic’s chamber music series at David Geffen Hall and Merkin Concert Hall.

Sun Valley Opera and Broadway presents the Met Opera’s live simulcast of “Dead Man Walking”

The 2023-2024 Season of The Metropolitan Opera’s Live Simulcast Opera Performances begins on Saturday, October 21, 2023 with “Dead Man Walking”. Sun Valley Opera and Broadway will present its MET HD Live Simulcast Operas at the Magic Lantern Theater in Ketchum. “Dead Man Walkin”g is based on Sister Helen Prejean’s memoir about her fight for the soul of a condemned murderer. “Dead Man Walking” matches the high drama of its subject with Heggie’s beautiful and poignant music and a brilliant libretto by Terrence McNally. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin takes the podium, with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato starring as Sister Helen. The outstanding cast also features bass-baritone Ryan McKinny as the death-row inmate Joseph De Rocher, soprano Latonia Moore as Sister Rose, and legendary mezzo-soprano Susan Graham—who sang Helen Prejean in the opera’s 2000 premiere—as De Rocher’s mother. Cultura – Cali, Columbia

The Hailey Public Library’s Cultura series concludes with a visit to Cali, the second largest city in Colombia, known as the “Rumba Capital” of the world. Los Angeles violinista and educator Mauricio Molino will share personal stories, images, and conversation about his home country, and play the violin. The presentation will be held Sunday, October 8, 2;00-4:00 PM at Town Center West.

COMMUNITY EVENT: Dia de los Muertos

For the 4th year, SVMoA is hosting a free community celebration for Día de los Muertos. Celebrated throughout the Americas and Mexico, altars are built to honor and remember loved ones who have died. The Museum has invited local non-profits and community members to build altars in the Community Room of the Hunger Coalition. The event will also feature Mariachi Tleyotltzin from Nampa will play in the greenhouse, the Museum’s Folkloric Dancers will perform and there will be pan de muerto and Mexican hot chocolate, too!

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff!

The Hailey Public Library will host the 4th Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff on Friday, September 15, 4:00-7:00 PM at Town Center West. Celebrate our community’s rich Hispanic traditions with these family-friendly offerings: music by Quinta Generaćion; food from Taqueria Al Pastor (first 25 meals free!); face painting, tissue paper flowers, games and piñatas for the kids; and bilingual Lotería and prizes with callers Herbert Romero & friends. A bilingual StoryWalk© about a girl of Peruvian and American heritage will be installed at Town Center West, 9/14-10/12.
