Help us prep and assemble kids’ lunches for our Summer Food Program! This will involve working in a fast paced environment in our commercial kitchen with other volunteers and Hunger Coalition staff. We assemble anywhere from 100-250 lunches a day and need help dicing, chopping, rolling, and wrapping! Little cooking experience necessary. TEEN WORKSHOP: Drypoint Printmaking with Willow Wells
Learn how to create a drypoint print on plexiglass in this 3.5 hour workshop. Artist Willow Wells will guide you through each step of the process from transferring the image onto the plexiglass to using etching needles to engrave the surface to create lines and tones to form burrs that hold the ink and produce rich, textured prints. Discover the proper techniques for soaking and drying paper, inking your plate, and wiping to highlight the whites and bring out the depth of your image. Add a unique touch of color by using different colored inks to bring vibrancy to your final prints. Leave the workshop with a small edition of drypoint prints. TEEN WORKSHOP: Fiber Landscape Collage with Ashley Larson
Join artist Ashley Larson in learning a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to create art using contemporary fiber art techniques. Using an image as your inspiration, recreate a favorite landscape using fiber and fabric to create a collaged piece. Using stitching techniques to secure the fabric, adding texture and intricate designs to bring your collage to life. Finish your piece by mounting onto a wooden frame, creating a one-of-a-kind work of artwork. No experience necessary-just bring your creativity. All materials provided as part of this workshop. Students welcome to bring any materials of personal significance (thread, fabric, etc.) that they might want to use. Kids Summer Art Lab (for kids ages 12–14/entering grades 7–9)
Spark creativity, engage with friends, and play with art! This weeklong art camp gives children ages 12-14 the opportunity to develop artistic skills and make original artwork. Campers will explore a variety of mediums such as paint, drawing, collage, and clay, and expand their creative knowledge through art-focused study. Campers should come prepared with a snack, lunch and water bottle, as well as appropriate apparel for a full day of making art. Sign-up early as space is limited. Nature Time: Lucy Loken Park
Off-Site Nature Time: Lucy Loken Park In-Person Enjoy a morning in nature off-site at Lucy Loken Park. Meet up with other toddlers, thier parents/gaurdians, and Haley! We will explore nature, read a story & make new friends. We will meet up at Lucy Loken Park at 10 am. This program is geared towards young children, and supervision is required. Join us on Mondays at 10:30 am for Story Time at The Community Library. Story Time is best suited for preschool age children. Story Time is followed by a special craft in the Children’s Library. No unattended children in the Library, please.
TEEN ART NIGHT: Gesso Transfers
Join us for Teen Art Night, a free art-making program for teens, where we’ll build on the creative techniques from last month’s Alternative Photography Processes to explore the themes of mapping, movement, and identity in connection with the Uncharted: Artists as Wayfinders exhibition. This month, we’ll be continuing our exploration of alternative photography processes, focusing specifically on Gesso transfers. Be prepared to get hands-on with this tactile image-making technique, which allows you to lift and layer photographic imagery in a whole new way. Please send digital photos or other imagery you’d like to include in your transfer to Dianne at dsanchez.shumway@svmoa.org by Thursday, May 8th to make sure they’re printed and ready for you. No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this two-hour session is a fun and supportive space for teens ages 12–18 to experiment and express themselves. SVMoA Staff and Teen Interns will be there to guide you through the creative process and help you connect your work to the exhibition’s themes of exploration and self-discovery. Dive into a heartwarming underwater adventure this Father’s Day! The Argyros Performing Arts Center is thrilled to offer a FREE family-friendly screening of Finding Nemo, the beloved animated classic that celebrates the bond between a father and son.
