Drawing from a wide range of sounds, their original music weaves together funked bass grooves, banjo driven twang, latin beats, electro-psych synth lines, and classic rock guitar. Listening to the group’s offerings, one gets the sense that a good laugh is one piece of the puzzle that keeps the fun meter in check. Forming in 2018, the band has grown outside the local Jackson music scene, playing everything from rowdy bars, local venues, and outdoor concert series supporting acts along the way such as JoJo Herman, DJ Williams’ Shot’s Fired, Polyrhythmics, Diggin’ Dirt, and The Ghost of Paul Revere. The Argyros with Sun Valley Film Festival have joined forces to bring you a film screening of ‘RUTH: Justice Ginsburg in Her Own Words,’ Directed by Freida Lee Mock, who will be in person for a Q&A following the film. The film tells the improbable story of how Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who couldn’t get a job despite tying first in her graduating law class and making Law Review at Harvard and Columbia Law Schools, became an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. It also reveals both the public and private sides of a resilient, resourceful woman who has survived the hostility of the profoundly male universe of government and law to become a revered Justice and advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. BODYTRAFFIC returns to the Argyros with an all new program including the Sun Valley premiere of I Forgot The Start by acclaimed choreographer Matthew Neenan. This inspired piece was created while in residency at The Argyros last summer. “Neenan dives into such complexities with utter sincerity, then adds touches of whimsy that cohere into a resonant work…I Forgot The Start [includes] songs by Sinéad O’Connor, Ozzie Kotani and Daniel Ho, and Sufjan Stevens that—like the dance itself—convey a sensory meditation on disconnection, connection, and perseverance.” Melissa Strong, Broad Street Review Additional repertory includes The Act Of Becoming, an energetic homage to Maurice Ravel’s iconic Boléro by Fernando Hernando Magadan, and Bloquea’o by BODYTRAFFIC’s own Joan Rodriguez, with original music by Pedro Osuna that blends traditional Cuban rhythms and live percussion accompaniment by Ricky Matute.
