Cooper Cox: Out Here

OCHI is pleased to present Out Here, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Brooklyn-based artist Cooper Cox. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. Out Here will be on view at OCHI Sun Valley, located at 119 Lewis Street in Ketchum, Idaho from December 15, 2023 to February 24, 2024. An Artist’s Reception will be held on Thursday, December 28th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM MST. From a young age, Cooper Cox harbored a fascination with trees, often sketching them in the margins of his schoolbooks. Allured by their elegant forms and endurance, as well as by their symbiotic relationships with neighboring organisms, Cox’s newest paintings feature snags—large, coniferous, upright trees that appear lifeless but serve as essential habitats for wildlife long after losing their leaves and flowers. Like the first line in a charcoal drawing, snags appear exposed, revealing the history of their growth as slow, incremental adjustments rather than sudden change. Snags symbolize strength and adaptability—having survived shifting climates and human interventions, Cox’s snags can occasionally bloom soulful blossoms that reflect the emotional and physical changes of senescence. Physically immersed in each stage of the painting process, Cox begins by pushing paint across the …

GoldFish

Before changing the Electronic Music game in South Africa as GoldFish, Dominic Peters and David Poole were mild-mannered students surfing by day – and blowing the roof off house parties by night. This duo have gone on to become one of the most original production teams in recent history, creating award-winning albums and trail blazing shows that blends DJ performance with live Saxophone, Upright Bass, Flute and Keys – breaking through genres and earning the attention of a global house and electronic music fan base. As their fame grew, so did their scope, scouring obscure sources for unique and cheeky samples that they twisted into endlessly fun hooks and choruses. Stirring African rhythms and Sax melodies into the mix helped Goldfish evolve a truly unique house sound. After seven years basing themselves between Cape Town and Ibiza, Dom and Dave have settled in San Diego to concentrate on the burgeoning US Market. A consistent string of chart-topping hits—and a live show that has seen countless festival appearances from Coachella to Glastonbury—has helped GoldFish become one of the most enduring and influential groups in live electronic music. VIP Tickets $100 • Includes Meet & Greet with GoldFish before the show • …

Gallery walk with artist SARAH BIRD

Join us for Gallery walk night on December 29th from 5:00-7:30 pm. Meet artist Sarah Bird whose solo exhibition “Tiny Fruits” is currently on display at the gallery. Sarah Bird is an Idaho- and Oregon-based realist oil painter. She draws on nineteenth-century techniques and seventeenth-century imaginative Flemish perspectives to weave still life and landscape into intimate tabletop worlds that sometimes tip into the surreal. In her arrangements, both individually and taken together, one can also see the passing of the seasons and a loose calendar of a year, of a life, emerges. These pieces are the “tiny fruits” of seasonal pleasures and of painting. Bird paints only with a very small, size zero round brush which makes the process similar to egg tempura painting or needlework: the whole surface is carefully, heavily touched.
