ART WORKSHOP: Bilingual ceramic workshop with artist George Rodgriguez
Join ceramic artist George Rodriguez in the creation of a Día de los Muertos community altar. In these workshops, we will be making offerings out of clay that symbolize our present community, ancestors and future hopes. George will demonstrate how to make small portraits, alebrijes and flowers with wet clay utilizing several building techniques. You will also have the opportunity to decorate a tile to be added to the exterior of the altar. All ages are welcome at this fun creation event. We will provide materials and tools — join us to add your story to the community altar. This workshop will take place on Thu, Sep 22 from 3–5pm and will be taught in both English and Spanish.

HPL Art Talk Explores Frida Kahlo
The Hailey Public Library will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the first of a three-part series of free Art Talks recognizing Hispanic icons of modern art. On Friday, September 16th at 7:00 PM at Hailey Town Center West, art educator Kathryn Zupsic will explore “The Life and Art of Frida Kahlo,” the most famous, recognizable female artist in the world. The talk will be offered in English and simultaneously translated into Spanish.

Sun Valley Playwright’s Residency in association with The Argyros and The Community Library present “A reading of BLUE COWBOY” Written and performed by David Cale – Directed by Les Waters. BLUE COWBOY (work-in progress) A gay writer from New York travels to Ketchum, Idaho to work on a film script set in Sun Valley. His plans and life take a wildly unanticipated turn after he has a chance encounter with an elusive ranch hand at the town’s annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival. Blue Cowboy, is the frank and sexually explicit story of two men from very different worlds. One who’s very open about his life, and the other whose life remains a self-imposed mystery to everyone around him, but who both share a profound need to intimately connect to another human being. FREE SPECIAL EVENT: Community Craft Making Day with Las Cafeteras
To prepare for Día de los Muertos, Sun Valley Museum of Art and The Hunger Coalition are hosting an afternoon that will involve learning about the elements of an altar, making crafts that can be included in an altar for day of the dead, a short dance class to learn some Son Jarocho dance steps, and music by Las Cafeteras. Crafts will take place from 1–3pm, the short dance class at 2pm, and at 3:30pm the music will begin! All activities will be in both English and Spanish.

Taking the stage for International Guitar Night’s 23rd year of touring will be Jocelyn Gould, a Canadian jazz guitarist and vocalist, and recipient of the 2021 Juno for Jazz Album of the Year. She will be joined by Flamenco master Jesus Guerrero from Spain; contemporary classical guitarist Stephanie Jones from Australia, and Django Reinhardt style inspired guitarist Olli Soikkeli from Finland.
