Science Seminar – “From Stardust to Cells: The Unsolved Mystery of Life’s Origins”

The Idaho Dark Sky Alliance (IDSA) invites the community to an evening of learning and stargazing featuring guest presenter Dr. Ellie Hara. Join us at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Stanley Public Library, followed by an outdoor stargazing session at the Stanley Pioneer Park near the new Sawtooth Observatory.
Dr. Hara will present an engaging talk, “From Stardust to Cells: The Unsolved Mystery of Life’s Origins”. Her presentation will offer attendees the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the universe before heading outdoors to experience the night sky firsthand.

Following the talk at 8:30, there will be a guided stargazing night at the Stanley Pioneer Park. AmeriCorps Night Sky Conservationist Leah Rogers, Dr. Hara, and local astronomers will lead observers in identifying stars, planets, and seasonal constellations, alongside telescope viewing available as weather conditions allow.

To enhance your viewing experience, be sure to bring a warm sweater to stay comfortable, or a picnic blanket or camp chair to relax on. While the spring night sky can offer clear views, stargazing is weather dependent. If conditions are unfavorable, updates will be posted on the Idaho Dark Sky Instagram and Facebook pages prior to the event.

The Seminar and stargazing are co-sponsored by the Idaho Dark Sky Alliance, Stanley Public Library, and Boise State University. Stanley Public Library is located at 240 Niece Ave in Stanley, and Pioneer Park is located at 1102 Airport Road, south of the Library.
