Footlight Dance Centre is excited to present “Masterpieces in Motion: Exploring Visual Art Through Dance,” an engaging cross-disciplinary performance where famous artworks come alive through the movement and artistry of 12 talented dancers, ages 14-18, all students at Wood River High School.
Under the direction of Mackenzie King, Artistic Director of Footlight Dance Centre, the performance brings to life famous artworks through ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip hop. Each choreographed piece is inspired by the creativity of painters, photographers, sculptors, and street artists, inviting audiences to see how movement, music, and visual art connect across disciplines.
The show invites audiences to imagine walking through a magical art gallery where every work of art dances right off the wall. From Degas’s ethereal ballet dancers captured behind the scenes to Warhol’s bold, colorful pop art energy, each piece demonstrates the connection between visual arts and dance.
Following performances for local elementary and middle schools throughout the end of January, the company will present a special free public performance on Friday, January 30th at 7:00 PM at the Community Campus Theatre.
The 40-minute performance showcases the dedication and skill these young artists have developed through their advanced training at Footlight Dance Centre, combining impressive technique with creative interpretation.
