The River Run Summer Series is a casual opportunity to gather with friends and family for an evening outdoors held four Wednesdays beginning July 26th. The community is invited to come down to River Run from 5 to 8 pm to hang out at the base of beautiful Bald Mountain with live music, lawn games, food and beverages. Lift service will be extended for the series operating until 7pm and a portion of the proceeds from lift ticket sales will benefit a different local non-profit each week. Be sure to keep dogs leashed at River Run Plaza. No uphill hiking (human & dog) on River Run Trail until 8pm Dates July 26 August 2 August 16 August 23 August 30

Remember The Science of Memory and The Art of Forgetting

Lisa Genova, Ph.D., will discuss her latest book, Remember The Science of Memory and The Art of Forgetting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 2 at the Church of the Big Wood in Ketchum. Lisa Genova, Ph.D. is a Harvard-trained neuroscientist and New York Times bestselling author. Inspired by neuroscience and the human spirit, her bestselling work includes Still Alice (now an Oscar-winning film) and Remember The Science of Memory and The Art of Forgetting. Genova is an acclaimed storyteller whose first TED talk, "What You Can Do To Prevent Alzheimer's" has over eight million views. In this talk, Genova will delve into the fascinating world of memory and why some memories stick with us while others fade away. She will explore the various factors that can influence memory, including age, genetics, and lifestyle choices, and offer particular tips for maintaining good brain health and memory function as we age. Rivers Revealed—Uncovering the Hidden Pathways of Flowing Water with Lidar with Dan Coe

The Community Library

Lidar (light detection and ranging) is a technology that uses laser light pulses to create intricate three-dimensional models of the earth’s surface. These models can be used to create stunningly detailed images of rivers and floodplains. These depictions often reveal previously unseen channels where rivers have flowed in the past and invite viewers to visually meander along these pathways through both space and time. When visitors enter The Community Library's Wood River Museum of History and Culture, opening July 6, 2023 in Ketchum, they will be greeted with a lidar-derived representation of the Big Wood River, created by Coe. During this program, Coe will discuss the making of this image and will show several other lidar river images from the Pacific Northwest and around the world. Daniel Coe has been making maps and visualizing spatial data in the Pacific Northwest for the past two decades. He lives in Olympia, Washington, where his work explores the geomorphic history and natural hazards of the region. Daniel’s award-winning cartographic designs have been featured in National Geographic, High Country News, and the Atlas of Design, among others. Join the Sun Valley Museum of Art (SVMoA) for a conversation with arts professionals Andrea Feldman Falcione and Rodman Primack about working with advisors to build an art collection. Andrea Feldman Falcione began her career at MoMA before taking on a curatorial role at The Broad in Los Angeles and later becoming an art advisor, consultant and curator who has collaborated with well-known collectors including Michael Ovitz. Before founding the design firm RP Miller and the Mexico City gallery AGO Projects, architectural designer and art advisor Rodman Primack worked at the auction houses Christie’s and Phillips de Pury, at Gagosian Gallery, and as the Executive Director and Director at Large for Design Miami.

Thursdays, beginning June 8th, lunch served 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Pick up your lunch or stay awhile at the Library's Cimino Plaza, outside the Children’s Library Entrance at 4th and Walnut (the program will move indoors to the Learning Commons during inclement weather). Come enjoy a nutritious and convenient lunch while engaging with other community members over interesting literature. Lunch registration is required.

Learn to fly cast, or brush up on your double haul technique with one of our fun and experienced guides. These casting clinics are for anyone who is curious or just a little rusty.
