EVENING EXHIBITION TOUR: Intertwined
Sun Valley Museum of ArtEnjoy refreshments as you tour the exhibition with SVMoA’s curator. Intertwined: Weaving in Community examines traditional weaving as a platform for social practice and activism. The exhibition features artwork by Portland-based artist Sara Siestreem (Hanis Coos), Los Angeles-based artist Tanya Aguiñiga, and AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides), a collective Aguiñiga founded in 2016. The exhibition also includes a community-based artwork emerging from workshops AMBOS is conducting in the Wood River Valley in April. Visitors to the Museum are invited to contribute to the artwork as it grows over the course of the exhibition.

Sun Valley Opera HouseDeceived by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, a 90-year-old woman sets out on a quest to reclaim what was taken from her. The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, THELMA is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar® nominee June Squibb (NEBRASKA and star of Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming directorial debut ELEANOR THE GREAT) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (SHAFT). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell also star.

Sun Valley Culinary InstituteSVCI’s Class of 2024 students will prepare and serve a five-course Spanish-inspired menu to showcase its talents for two evenings at Bistro 211 Student Restaurant 1 on Thursday, May 23, and Bistro 211 Student Restaurant 2 on Friday, May 24, 5:30-8 p.m. As part of their curriculum under the guidance of Chef Joseph Tocci, the current SVCI students have spent a great deal of time creating and executing a delicious menu. The dinner begins with copa de sopa de gazpacho, a cold cucumber and pepper soup, followed by an aperitivo or appetizer with the choice of pulpo a la plancha, grilled octopus, or a tortilla Española, a potato and onion omelet. For a salad course, choose between a pipirrana ensalada or tomatoes, onions, garlic, bell peppers salad with sherry vinaigrette or an ensalada verde, which is a mixed greens, Manchego, pepitas and marinated olives with a citrus vinaigrette. The main course will be a choice of chuleta de cordero, a lamb chop with patatas bravas, romesco sauce and sautéed asparagus or a pisto con arroz de saffron, which is Spanish vegetable stew with saffron rice. Redfish Lake LodgeHALF MARATHON, 10K AND 5K – SATURDAY, MAY 25, 2024 AT REDFISH LAKE LODGE Redfish Lake Lodge is excited to host the 14th annual Redfish Lake Lodge Memorial Run, a U.S.F.S. permitted event. Thank you to all of last year’s participants! Kid’s 1 mile race will begin at 9:30 AM (Ages 3 – 10). Half Marathon begins at 10:00 AM. 10K beings at 10:30 AM. 5K begins at 11:00 AM. All races will begin and end at the Lodge. There will be a delicious pre-race meal at the event area on Friday at from 6-8pm (adults: $18 /children 12-6: $9.50 / under 5: free) The Half Marathon and 10K course will be on paved, gravel, and trail surfaces. Bluefish event will take place at high Noon. Packet pickup will be on Friday, May 24 from 4-8pm and on Saturday, May 25th from 8-9:30am in front of the lodge. Thai Mainhard : Off the Ground
Gilman ContemporaryVisit Thai Mainhard's exhibition at Gilman Contemporary. In Thai Mainhard’s exhibition Off the Ground vibrant, frenetic colors are collaged, painted, and drawn onto canvases that show a sense of composition and experience. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and based in Los Angeles, California, Mainhard’s personal exploration of place seeps into each of her paintings. In her newest body of work Mainhard embraces tangible objects through an exploration of the composed still life. Expressively rendered maximalist spaces are filled with swatches of bright color, checkered table clothes, and patterned vases of loosely rendered botanicals offer a lingering invitation. These composed paintings are the physical embodiment of the artists internal world and life experience, harnessing the tension between chaos and order, figurative composition, and expressive abstraction.
