Sun Valley Early Literacy Learning Summit
The Community LibraryJune 12-14, 2024, The Community Library invites Kindergarten through Grade 3 educators – who open the world of words to children – from around southern Idaho to come to Ketchum/Sun Valley for three days of lively conversation and learning with preeminent literacy scholars and colleagues. We’ll dig into reading research and discuss: how reading happens in the brain, the components of structured literacy, the impact of phonemic awareness on literacy, the principles of spelling, informed teaching strategies for multilingual language learners, informed teaching strategies for students with dyslexia, social-emotional learning, and more. There is no cost for the Early Literacy Summit. An honorarium of $200 will be provided to teachers based in Blaine County, and $500 will be provided to instructors traveling from outside of Blaine County, to help cover travel and associated expenses. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided each day. Continuing education credit will be provided through Northwest Nazarene University. Registration is limited to approximately 36 instructors. The Trailhead BicyclesJoin us for a 20-30 mile gravel ride around Hailey each Wednesday morning at 7am throughout the summer! These are no-drop group rides; we plan to ride with you! It is the best way to start a summer day. Please fill out our waiver via our website www.thetrailheadbicycles.com/group-rides before your first ride (once per season is all that is needed). Wildflower Walks
Various Locations2024 is SBG’s 20th year Wildflower Walks! Join us walking slowly on nearby moderate to easy trails as we appreciate the blooming native plants of our area. Walks will be led by botanists, naturalists, birders, and wildflower enthusiasts. Meet at Sawtooth Botanical Garden (11 Gimlet Road, 4 miles south of Ketchum), and follow each other or carpool to the trailhead. Children under 14 are welcome with an adult. No dogs please! Bring clothing for possible weather, hiking shoes (no flip fops or dress shoes), sun protection, plenty of water, reusable water bottle and a lunch. A camera, field guide, binoculars and notebook may help with identifying and remembering plants. EVENING EXHIBITION TOUR
Sun Valley Museum of ArtEnjoy refreshments as you tour Interwoven with SVMoA’s curator. Intertwined: Weaving in Community examines traditional weaving as a platform for social practice and activism. The exhibition features artwork by Portland-based artist Sara Siestreem (Hanis Coos), Los Angeles-based artist Tanya Aguiñiga, and AMBOS (Art Made Between Opposite Sides), a collective Aguiñiga founded in 2016. The exhibition also includes a community-based artwork emerging from workshops AMBOS is conducting in the Wood River Valley in April. Visitors to the Museum are invited to contribute to the artwork as it grows over the course of the exhibition.

Scout Wine & CheeseEvery Thursday, starting the second week of June we "Scout Wine & Cheese" will be doing a tasting from 5pm-7pm touching upon the qualities and range of wine from the perspective on where and how grapes are grown. Pitting two varietals from 4 separate unique "terroirs" against each other and showing off their differences and similarities, no reservation required.
