“How To Change Your Mind” Discussion Group

The Community Library

Join The Community Library in partnership with Courtney Loving, local trauma and psychedelic therapist, in viewing and discussing the 4-part Netflix series How to Change Your Mind by Michael Pollan. Each Wednesday we will screen one 60-minute episode exploring the psychedelics LSD, psilocybin, MDMA and mescaline, and their controversial histories and promising future therapeutic uses. The screenings will be followed by a one-hour discussion, moderated by Loving. This series is being screened courtesy of Netflix's Educational Screenings Permission. Each episode will only be shown once, in-person at the Library, and each screening is free and open to the public. No registration is required. SHOW DESCRIPTION: John Kane is sitting on a hospital gurney, and very shortly a jazz percussionist, two women called Mary, a very old man and a giant lobster will arrive. Then everything will start. Medicine is a dark and frequently absurdist work that shatters the boundary between cast and audience. It is a devastatingly funny and moving meditation on how, for decades, we have treated those we have called ‘mentally ill’. Medicine, a Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival production, received its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2021 prior to its opening at GIAF 2021 in September and New York transfer to St. Ann’s Warehouse in November. The Spot's production will be the show's regional premiere in the U.S. and the first performance by a new company of actors. (The world premiere was written for and created with the original cast.)
