Hemingway Distinguished Lecture: LUIS ALBERTO URREA

The annual Hemingway Distinguished Lecture is presented each July, honoring the month of Ernest Hemingway’s birth and death. The event celebrates the power of words and the creative spirit in a landscape that Hemingway loved. This year, The Community Library welcomes LUIS ALBERTO URREA: hailed by NPR as a “literary badass” and a “master storyteller with a rock and roll heart,” Urrea is a prolific and acclaimed writer who uses his dual-culture life experiences to explore greater themes of love, loss and triumph. A 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist for nonfiction and member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame, Urrea is the critically acclaimed and best-selling author of 17 books, including "Good Night, Irene" (2023), "The House of Broken Angels" (2018), "Into the Beautiful North" (2009), "The Hummingbird’s Daughter" (2005), and "The Devil’s Highway" (2004). Born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and American mother, Urrea is most recognized as a border writer, though he says, “I am more interested in bridges, not borders.” Urrea attended the University of California at San Diego, earning an undergraduate degree in writing, and did his graduate studies at the University of Colorado-Boulder. The 2023 Hailey Market is on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Hailey market will remain in it’s wonderful location- the front of Roberta McKercher Park (Main Street on the south end of town, between 3rd and 4th Avenue)! Enjoy some live music and ready to eat foods. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags and market baskets. This market is continuing to accept EBT and offer the Double Bucks program- please see the Wood River Ranch Beef trailer for more information. BATHROOM FACILITIES ARE VERY LIMITED. Nothing is more fun than browsing for unique treasures at a well-curated antique show, and the Hailey Antique Fairs have some of the best antique vendors and wares in the region.  You will be sure to find that perfect one-of-a-kind something! Paint a Legacy 5k

Wood River High School

Help us leave a legacy of smiles, Wood River Valley! This 5k color run will be supporting our local non-profit, Dental Legacy Foundation. Please wear a white shirt and sunglasses! Each racer will be given a race bib, and a cup of paint to throw at the start line, and a medal at the finish line. The race will start at 11:00 am. Please show up early to pick up your bib and check in before the race starts. The race will start at the dirt parking lot in front of the High School. Please park at the Wood River High School and Community Center. We can't wait to see. you there!

Summer Kick Off Block Party

The Trailhead Bicycles & First Lite are throwing a Block Party to kick off the summer! Join us on the street from 12-4 pm for a live DJ, bike-themed contests, food trucks, beer, kids' activities, corn hole, raffle prizes, and more! Everyone is encouraged to bike. Family-friendly pre-party bike ride from Hulen Meadows on the Wood River Trail to the shop, 10:30 am-12 pm. Free Casting Clinics with Silver Creek Outfitters

Learn to fly cast, or brush up on your double haul technique with one of our fun and experienced guides. These casting clinics are for anyone who is curious or just a little rusty. Clinics will run Tuesday through Saturday at the Sun Valley Resort from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm throughout the summer. Equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.
