Play, create, discover, and have fun! Afternoon Art is a free drop-in opportunity for community members of all ages to explore concepts from the Museum's current exhibition and create works of art. Families and friends are encouraged to communicate, reflect, and produce as artists together. Perfect for art lovers, curious minds, and anyone seeking inspiration. Projects will vary. Age & Ability: all ages, families encouraged to attend together Ketchum Afternoon Art runs from 1:30–4:30pm at the Sun Valley Museum of Art. Afternoon Art is offered in Ketchum on the first Friday of each month and in Hailey on the second Friday from 1:30-4:30pm and are recommended for families with children of all ages. Please be sure to check dates and location.

OPEN STUDIO: Figure Drawing

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Use this opportunity to hone technical drawing skills in a relaxed environment while drawing directly from the human figure. A model will hold a variety of poses throughout the 2-hour session. All skill levels are welcome. Bring your own supplies; drawing boards will be provided. Age & ability: 18+, all skill levels welcome! The class takes place from 6–8pm. Fall 2024 Open Studio Sessions: Tue, Oct 8, 6-8pm Tue, Nov 12, 6-8pm Tue, Dec 10, 6-8pm (register for each Open Studio session/date individually)

Origami Cranes Peace Project

Hailey Town Center West

The Hailey Public Library is inviting the community to participate in the 3rd annual, valley-wide project to fold hundreds of Origami cranes to promote peace and honor the holiday season. Cranes will be folded during 2 free workshops and then displayed at the library starting on the Winter Solstice, December 21. The 2-hour, facilitated workshops will be held at Town Center West, 116 S River in Hailey, from 5:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, December 12. Another workshop will be offered from 2:00-4:00 PM on Saturday, December 14. Each workshop begins with a short loving kindness meditation followed by a lesson in folding Origami cranes. In addition, young children are invited to fold fun versions of simple Origami birds and dogs by visiting the Maker Space at the Hailey Public Library. All materials will be available. Introduction to Avalanches Presentation

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center for a 90 minute presentation based on the Know Before You Go platform, introducing basic concepts about snow, avalanches, and traveling safely in and near avalanche terrain. Learn from the Friends of SAC instructor team of snow experts, mountain guides, and experienced avalanche educators. We invite everyone to join if you’re learning about avalanches for the first time or are a seasoned backcountry user ready for a yearly refresher. No registration is needed for the presentation. This event will be in person but will also be live-streamed! HPL Knitting Classes Return from Holidays

“Learn to Knit” is a free, 4-week class co-taught by master knitters Patricia Lirk and Joanne Squire! The series will focus on the basics and participants will create a personal project. Classes will be held each Tuesday from 5:30-7:00 PM starting January 7 at the Library, 7 West Croy. Participants should bring their own yarn and needles. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Email kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org or call 208-788-2036 to reserve your spot. “Knitting Circle” is an informal gathering facilitated by master knitters Patricia Lirk and Joanne Squire! It will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Library, 7 West Croy, from 5:30-7:00 PM, starting January 8. The Circle is suitable for all abilities. New this month - optional instruction in a cool advanced technique. Participants should bring their own yarn, needles and knitting project. Pre-registration is helpful.
