The Hailey Public Library’s favorite forensic chemist Cat Helms takes a look at cicutoxin, the poison found in water hemlock, in the popular Pick Your Poison series. Common along small ditches and wet meadows in Blaine County, it is considered the most violently toxic plant growing in North America. Learn how to identify water hemlock, the mechanisms by which it wreaks havoc on the central nervous system, and what to do if it is accidentally ingested or touched. The free talk will be held at Town Center West, 116 S River, Thursday, June 8, from 5:30-7:00 PM.

Originally a game invented by Surrealist artists in Paris in the 1920s, “Exquisite Corpse” is a collaborative activity designed to stimulate creativity. In this 2-day workshop, examine the history and concept behind the Exquisite Corpse, subjectivity and color theory. Participants will create collages and paintings in a collaborative environment, developing design and color relationship skills, collectively assembling words and images. Participants are encouraged to bring images (drawings, photographs, magazine materials, etc.) to be used in the collaborative projects. This class brings together elements of a traditional yoga class - stretching, balancing, mindful awareness and deep relaxation with informative and supportive group discussions. Women have an opportunity to connect deeply with their bodies during this time of rapid physical and emotional change. Through the practice of mindfulness, women learn to slow down and pay attention so that they can connect fully with their growing baby and also listen deeply to and trust their body's innate birthing wisdom.
