Desdemona: A Play about a Handkerchief

The Mint

Desdemona: A Play about a Handkerchief Presented by THE LIBERTY THEATRE COMPANY July 7-22 at The Mint in Hailey Written by Paula Vogel Directed by Veronica Moonhill Starring Audra Honaker, Tess Makena, and Aly Wepplo Tickets at LibertyTheatreCompany.org This rowdy, hysterical, feminist update on Othello is written by Paula Vogel, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of How I Learned to Drive, and serves as the perfect addition to summer fun in Hailey. As the wrongly accused and suffering wife of Shakespeare's tragic Moor, Othello, Desdemona has long been viewed as the "victim of circumstance." But as Paula Vogel demonstrates in her comic deconstruction of Shakespeare's play - aligning tongue-in-cheek humor while raising serious questions as to the role of women through the ages - Desdemona was far from the quivering naif we've all come to know. Community Speaker Series: “Romantic Comedy” with Curtis Sittenfeld

The Community Library

In bestselling author CURTIS SITTENFELD’s much-loved new novel, she explores – with her typically keen observations and trademark ability to bring complex women to life on the page – the neurosis-inducing and heart-fluttering wonder of love, while slyly dissecting the social rituals of romance and gender relations in the modern age. Sittenfeld sits down with Sun Valley Writers’ Conference Literary Director JOHN BURNHAM SCHWARTZ – a former professor of hers at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, as it happens – to discuss what makes Romantic Comedy a romantic comedy, her approach to genre and craft in previous novels such as American Wife, Rodham, and Eligible, and other stories from her literary journey. Presented in partnership with the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, the Community Speaker Series welcomes speakers from the annual conference to The Community Library for a free community event. This year’s series features Javier Zamora on July 19 and Curtis Sittenfeld on July 25. Registration is required. Events will be livestreamed, and a book signing will follow each event. Curtis Sittenfeld is the bestselling author of six novels, including Prep, American Wife, Eligible and Rodham, and one story collection, You Think It, I’ll Say It. Her books have been selected ...

IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild

IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild will make a highly anticipated return to the Wood River Valley this summer. Founded by classical pianist Hunter Noack, IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild is an outdoor concert series where America’s most stunning landscapes replace the traditional concert hall. A 9-foot Steinway grand piano travels on a flatbed trailer to national parks, urban greenspaces, working ranches, farms and historical sites for classical music concerts that connect people with each landscape. To meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild, sound is transmitted to concertgoers via wireless headphones. Unconfined by seats and walls, audiences explore the landscape in this approachable and deeply moving classical music experience. The performance will take place alongside the Big Wood River just south of River Run parking lot, where concert goers will have a full, immersive nature and classical music experience meandering along the river or sitting on the banks watching nature unfold. $45 member / $55 nonmember / student $20 (18 & under)
