Musical Landscapes of the Intermountain West with Jared Farmer
The Community LibraryJared Farmer is the Walter H. Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania. His temporal expertise is the long nineteenth century; his regional expertise is the North American West. His recent work has turned to global environmental history across the modern period. In August, he returns as The Community Library's Writer-In-Residence at the historic Ernest and Mary Hemingway House. In October 2023, Farmer will be delivering the 28th annual Leonard J. Arrington Mormon History Lecture in Logan, Utah; his presentation will be called “Music & the Unspoken Truth.” This presentation for The Community Library is an adaptation of that lecture for the Wood River Valley community. Originally from Provo, Utah, Farmer earned his degrees from Utah State University, the University of Montana, and Stanford. His book "On Zion’s Mount: Mormons, Indians, and the American Landscape" (Harvard, 2008) won the Francis Parkman Prize from the Society of American Historians for the best-written non-fiction book on an American theme, a literary award that honors the “union of the historian and the artist.” His subsequent book, "Trees in Paradise: A California History" (Norton, 2013), won the Ray Allen Billington Prize from the Organization of American Historians for the best book on the ...

Sun Valley Shakespeare in the Park — Twelfth Night

Directed by returning and Resident Director Colton Pometto from New York City, it includes professional actors from NYC, Chicago, LA and some of your favorite local actors. Set in the enchanting world of Illyria, this timeless tale follows the adventures of Viola, a shipwrecked young woman who disguises herself as a man named Cesario. As Viola navigates the comical chaos of mistaken identities and unrequited love, she finds herself entangled in a web of hilarious and heartwarming situations. Filled with witty wordplay, eccentric characters, and a touch of the supernatural, Twelfth Night promises an evening of laughter, romance, and revelry under the stars. Join us for an unforgettable performance as we celebrate the joy of love, friendship, and the magic of Shakespeare's enduring genius.

WORKSHOP: Beginning Drawing Intensive
SVMoA Hailey ClassroomTHIS 8-SESSION WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE MON–THU, AUG 7–10 AND AUG 14–17, FROM 9AM–12PM DAILY. Get out your sketch book! With emphasis on observational skills and hand-eye coordination, this 8-day workshop will explore graded tones, line, negative space, perspective, and shadows. Each day, examine a different still life as you develop fundamental drawing skills and increased confidence to draw. The classes are cumulative and open to beginning students as well as those who want to refresh their skills. Age & ability: 17 and older, beginners welcome! SVMoA and Jim will provide all the materials necessary for the class (included in the enrollment cost). ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Born in New York, Jim Caldwell has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major and spent the next year in Paris studying printing and etching at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. In 1969 he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. The Community LibraryTake out lunches from the Senior Connection including a short reading selection presented by the Community Library. Thursdays, beginning June 8th, lunch served 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Pick up your lunch or stay awhile at the Library's Cimino Plaza, outside the Children’s Library Entrance at 4th and Walnut (the program will move indoors to the Learning Commons during inclement weather). Come enjoy a nutritious and convenient lunch while engaging with other community members over interesting literature. Lunch registration is required.

Sun Valley Story Tour
Jump on the Mountain Rides Blue Route from the Visitor Center in Ketchum for a one-hour free bus tour highlighting the area's rich heritage. Guided by local volunteers. The Mountain Rides Blue Route leaves the Visitor Center at 10:15 am and returns in one hour after traveling to Warm Springs, back to downtown Ketchum, out to Sun Valley and Elkhorn, and back to the Visitor Center. Space on the Mountain Rides bus is limited to 20 Sun Valley Story Tour passengers so we encourage early sign-ups at the Visitor Center Register in advance for this tour by calling 208.726.3423, via email: info@visitsunvalley.com or in person at the Visitor Center at 491 Sun Valley Road, Ketchum. Register no later 9:45am on Friday (day of the tour) on space available basis.

2023 Hailey Farmers Market
Roberta McKercher ParkThe 2023 Hailey Market is on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Hailey market will remain in it’s wonderful location- the front of Roberta McKercher Park (Main Street on the south end of town, between 3rd and 4th Avenue)! Enjoy some live music and ready to eat foods. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags and market baskets.
