Artists’ Studio Tour of the Wood River Valley

The Artists’ Studio Tour of the Wood River Valley will be held on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19 from 11am-5pm each day. Forty established artists from our valley will open their studios to the public. Visiting eight studios over the two days will qualify you to enter a drawing with gifts from participating artists as prizes. There will be art for sale at each location, as well as the leisure to discuss techniques and inspiration with the artists themselves. In these days of molasses-speed supply chains and slowed down shipping, it makes even more sense to shop regionally from artists who have stock on hand ready to hand over to you. Let’s all celebrate summer with locally produced and acquired goods. A map of the physical locations plus profiles of the artists can be found at www.artiststudiotour.com. The site includes images and contact information for each artist.

Cruising to Idaho via the Columbia and the Snake Rivers with Marc Onetto In-Person

The Community Library

In 2021, as the border with Canada was still closed, Marc Onetto decided to head south and reach Idaho with his boat. This cruise took him from Seattle to the open Pacific Ocean off the Washington coast, to the famous bar at the Columbia River estuary and Astoria where the river cruise began. The 450-mile river navigation included 8 locks on the Columbia and lower Snake Rivers before he finally arrived in Lewiston, Idaho, at an elevation of 740 feet. Marc will share this navigation adventure and many beautiful pictures from the Columbia gorge waterfalls to semi-desertic landscapes in Eastern Washington and Oregon. In his talk Marc will also cover the controversial topic of the impact of the dams on the economy and on the salmon population. Marc Onetto, originally French, is based in Seattle and Sun Valley, Idaho. He is now retired after serving in senior management positions in major U.S. companies. Every summer, for many years prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marc cruised the Inside Passage between Seattle and Southeast Alaska on his boat: a 65-ft Marlow Explorer. He named his boat Lapérouse after a famous French captain who explored the Pacific Northwest coast from Alaska to California ...

“The Two Swans: Vladimir/Volodymyr” Play

The Argyros

Blaine County will get to experience an exceptional video of a recent New York City production, the essential play about the Ukrainian - Russian War.  ‘The Two Swans” will be showing at the Argyros Theater ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY, August 22, 2023. "The Two Swans:Vladimir/Volodymyr” is a play in 2 acts. Not only a historical drama it is wryly satirical as it traces the Russian-Ukrainian War through the backgrounds of the two principles involved, Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. A couple of their own shortened speeches becomes a means of tracing how the conflict unfolded. It becomes a gem of inspired writing based on thorough research. Many little-known facts will be revealed as the compelling character development of the 12 roles tightens its grip. The subject matter is frequently lightened with humor in this charismatic theater work. Quite simply, there has never been a play about military conflict the likes of “Two Swans”, written in Ukraine during the war.  Translated into Ukrainian, its world premiere in Kyiv, Ukraine is only waiting for the end of the war to arrive. “The Two Swans” will be shown in the Bailey Theater at the Argyros at 7:00pm.  Admission is free, donations to Ukrainian relief agencies will be ...
