To help celebrate the Trailing of the Sheep Festival, the Hailey Public Library has invited local author and historian Rob Lonning to lead a free, 90-minute walking tour through parts of Old Hailey. Participants should meet on the Library’s west patio, ready to leave at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 28. The tour will include the Hiawatha Hotel, Assay Office, Masonic Lodge, historic churches and more.
This year’s Hispanic Heritage Month theme is Honoring Heritage and HPL wants to celebrate ALL the rich cultures represented in the Wood River Valley. Young and old are invited to submit a story, poem, copy of a photograph, drawing or whatever honoring your family’s heritage or heritages. Submissions are limited to one 8 1/2” X 11” paper and due on Wednesday, September 11, by 5:00 PM. They will be lightly curated and displayed to the whole community on the Library’s windows from September 15 to October 15.

The tour will begin with a look at images from the Library’s collection of Martyn Mallory turn-of-the-century photographs taken in Hailey around the 4th of July. Free.

This year’s theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library! which encourages unusual and exciting summer reading explorations. Register and pick up a passport at your local library beginning Memorial Weekend, Friday, 5/24/2024 and ending Labor Day Weekend, Tuesday, 9/3.
