MEDICINE by Enda Walsh @ The Spot

Join us for the final show of the season! The regional premiere of MEDICINE by ENDA WALSH, April 20–30 @ The Spot. The blackbox theater located at 220 Lewis Street #2, Ketchum, ID 83340. SHOW DESCRIPTION: John Kane is sitting on a hospital gurney, and very shortly a jazz percussionist, two women called Mary, a very old man and a giant lobster will arrive. Then everything will start. Medicine is a dark and frequently absurdist work that shatters the boundary between cast and audience. It is a devastatingly funny and moving meditation on how, for decades, we have treated those we have called ‘mentally ill’. Medicine, a Landmark Productions and Galway International Arts Festival production, received its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Festival in August 2021 prior to its opening at GIAF 2021 in September and New York transfer to St. Ann’s Warehouse in November. The Spot’s production will be the show’s regional premiere in the U.S. and the first performance by a new company of actors. (The world premiere was written for and created with the original cast.) In keeping with Enda Walsh’s vision to devise the piece with a deeply connected ensemble our production is helmed by/features …

BODYTRAFFIC

BODYTRAFFIC is an international, renowned forward-thinking dance company proudly hailing from Los Angeles. Since its founding in 2007 by Artistic Director Tina Finkelman Berkett, the Company has held steady to its mission to champion contemporary dance, educate audiences, present new voices, question the future, and incite positive change. Its goal is simple: get the world moving. A forward-thinking Company, BODYTRAFFIC is not one driven by a single choreographic voice. It’s an incubator for new voices and continues to move the needle of what dance can and cannot be – elevating it beyond an art form to a way of thinking, being, and doing. Because, after all, without movement, nothing changes.

24hrs with a Local: Sun Valley Wine Auction’s Peter Burke, August

Sun Valley Museum of Art’s Peter Burke has dipped a toe into most every part of the arts there is since graduating from NYU Tisch School of the Arts years ago; he has been at SVMoA since 2018, but before that he worked as an experiential and creative producer, producing events for Google, the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, and more. He is one of the co-founders of Ketchum theater The Spot and can often be seen gracing the stage in their productions. When not in his role as Development Director and Wine Auction Director at SVMoA, he continues to teach barre classes at Zenergy, which he has done for the last eight years. As a young 30-something who grew up in and out of this Valley, Peter knows just how to have a perfect summer day, whether that’s getting inner tubes at Les Schwab to float a section of the Big Wood River or getting blocks of ice from Veltex to sled down grassy hills. Peter and his husband, Daniel, live in west Ketchum with their cat, Zelda (who can often be found sneaking into Sushi on Second searching for scraps of fish). When there is a moment of free …

Locals Guide to Art Galleries in Sun Valley

Ketchum local Rudi Broschofsky grew up with art—after all, his parents opened Broschofsky Galleries in 1987 when he was just 5 years old. Spending days in the gallery after school and helping with Gallery Walks enmeshed him in Ketchum’s art scene and gave him an appreciation for art that would last a lifetime. After becoming partnered into the gallery in 2005, Rudi moved to Portland for several years where he started his own street art gallery, Flat Blak, before moving back to Ketchum almost two years ago to take over the majority of day-to-day operations at Broshofsky Galleries. An artist himself, Rudi’s street art approach to western art can be seen in various spots around town like his “Roper” sculpture on Main and Fourth in Ketchum. As a lifelong local, artist, and gallery owner, Rudi is the best man in town to give you the 411 on Ketchum’s art gallery scene. How would you describe the gallery scene in this town generally? Rudi: I’d say the gallery scene here is better than most cities actually. A lot of people don’t realize the magnitude of the art scene here in Ketchum, it’s world-class and conveniently stuffed within a few short blocks. …
