Barcelona Flamenco Ballet

The Argyros welcomes back Barcelona Flamenco Ballet (BFB) and their production of New Time/Flamenco Reborn. In an all new show, BFB fuses three dance styles with which we are all familiar – jazz, contemporary, and, of course, flamenco – creating a tension so electric, the metallic tapping sounds of the dancers footwork endure in one’s ears, leaving us questioning: What does it mean to be ‘reborn’? One interpretation of ‘reborn’ is that of reconstruction. The dancers constantly reconstruct the ambiances they produce onstage, building up a rhythm with repetitive motions – and then break it, instantly stopping, rupturing the established order, then beginning again. In this way, the rhythm itself is ‘reborn’ – constantly renewing the dynamics of the performance, keeping it fresh and alive. Witness the drama of BFB, from the exuberant outpourings of passion to quiet moments of intimacy in this constantly changing display of reinvention.

Presented in an intimate atmosphere, the all-Brahms programs include beloved pieces by the Romantic composer for solo piano and string ensembles, such as Hungarian Dance No. 4 in F Minor, Quintet No. 1 in F Major, Trio No. 1 in B Major, and the inventive and technically demanding Handel Variations. The two unique programs will be performed on alternating evenings: the first on March 6 and 8, the second on March 7 and 9. The concerts will take place at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum, starting at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) The concerts are about two hours long, including a 20-minute intermission.
