Join SVMoA’s curators for a tour of the exhibitions Tina Barney: Homecoming and Rob Davis: Records. Refreshments will be served. Tina Barney: Homecoming features photographs Barney made between 1976 and 1980, when the internationally renowned artist was living in Ketchum, Idaho, and taking photography classes at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts (now Sun Valley Museum of Art). Made with a Pentax 35mm camera, the images document the daily life and activities of the people closest to Barney. They are representative of a key stage in her trajectory as an artist, before she began working with a large format camera to make carefully composed and directed photographs. In contrast, the images in this exhibition, which were made in Sun Valley, Rhode Island, and New York, are more spontaneous. But like her later photographs, these early works illuminate the subtle interactions and psychological tensions that occur among family and friends even in moments of leisure – at weddings and on squash courts, at the beach, waterpark, or a ski race. TEEN WORKSHOP: Botanical Cyanotypes WITH ASHLEY LARSON

Delve into the alternative photography process of cyanotypes and learn about their historical role in botanical illustrations. Select from an array of natural materials to compose your own work of art. Expose the cyanotypes to the sun and bring them indoors to witness the transformation as your compositions come to life. Each participant will leave with knowledge of the technical aspects of cyanotype creation and their own unique and captivating piece of botanical art. Students are encouraged to bring their own natural objects for making cyanotypes. This workshop will work mostly with pre-coated cyanotype paper. Age & Ability: 12–18; all levels; beginners welcome! In this workshop, participants will coat paper with light-sensitive chemicals and choose from an array of natural materials to compose their own work of art. Watch as sun exposure transforms the compositions and brings the cyanotypes life. Each participant will leave with knowledge of the technical aspects of cyanotype creation and their own unique and captivating piece of botanical art. Students are encouraged to bring their own natural objects for making cyanotypes. This workshop will include paper coating during the workshop rather than using pre-coated paper. Age & ability: 16+, beginners welcome! THIS WORKSHOP TAKES PLACE FROM 1–4PM AT SVMOA'S HAILEY CLASSROOM. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Ashley Larson is an interdisciplinary artist based in Boise, Idaho. Explore the intersection of landscape photography with portraiture. Learn about camera settings, making lens choices and using natural light to compose powerful landscape photographs and environmental portraits. The two-day workshop will consist of classroom instruction and a location shoot allowing participants the opportunity to practice their photography skills, learn the basics of editing, and engage in the post-production process. Students will need: Camera (ideally DSLR or Mirrorless with wide angle lens and low aperture) A wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens (70-200mm) recommended, if available Tripod Remote Timer Laptop for editing (Digital editing software, not required) Age & ability: 17+, basic knowledge of how to operate your camera in manual mode; advanced photography skills not required. David Sedaris is one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. He is a master of satire and one of today’s most observant writers.
