Join us this summer for Summer Maker Space, a free, drop-in art studio for families, where creativity spills from the classroom onto the lawn. Each week features fresh, hands-on art projects designed for all ages—no registration needed, just stop by and make something! Expect projects like: -Nature printmaking and naturally-dyed fabric art -Paint-your-own kites and playful wind toys -Large-scale outdoor cardboard cities and other collaborative creations -Sculpture-building with found, natural, and unexpected materials -Sensory Stations with clay, water-based paints, and sand—perfect for messy, tactile exploration -A Relax & Sketch area with clipboards and drawing boards to capture the trees, mountains, and sky We provide the supplies—you bring the imagination (and maybe wear clothes you don’t mind turning into a masterpiece). there’s always something new to discover!

WORKSHOP: Travel Sketching Intensive—For Those on the Go! with Jim Caldwell

Awaken your creativity and create trip souvenirs that you will treasure. In this 5-day intensive, learn how to capture a travel scene or still life in ink and Prismacolor. Each 3-hour class will start with a slide show in the Museum classroom, then go outside to sketch, and end with a group critique back in the Museum classroom. The inspiration for our travel drawings will be Jim’s good friend and artist, Bill Fain. All materials and supplies will be provided and are part of the tuition. Age & ability: 18+, all levels, beginners welcome! This 5-session workshop will take place Monday-Friday, Aug 4–8, from 9:30am–12:30pm daily. About the Instructor Born in New York in 1942, Jim Caldwell has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major and spent the next year in Paris studying printing and etching at the École des Beaux Arts. In 1969, he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. TEEN WORKSHOP: Fiber Landscape Collage with Ashley Larson

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Join artist Ashley Larson in learning a sustainable and environmentally friendly way to create art using contemporary fiber art techniques. Using an image as your inspiration, recreate a favorite landscape using fiber and fabric to create a collaged piece. Using stitching techniques to secure the fabric, adding texture and intricate designs to bring your collage to life. Finish your piece by mounting onto a wooden frame, creating a one-of-a-kind work of artwork. No experience necessary-just bring your creativity. All materials provided as part of this workshop. Students welcome to bring any materials of personal significance (thread, fabric, etc.) that they might want to use. TEEN WORKSHOP: Drypoint Printmaking with Willow Wells

SVMoA Hailey Classroom

Learn how to create a drypoint print on plexiglass in this 3.5 hour workshop. Artist Willow Wells will guide you through each step of the process from transferring the image onto the plexiglass to using etching needles to engrave the surface to create lines and tones to form burrs that hold the ink and produce rich, textured prints. Discover the proper techniques for soaking and drying paper, inking your plate, and wiping to highlight the whites and bring out the depth of your image. Add a unique touch of color by using different colored inks to bring vibrancy to your final prints. Leave the workshop with a small edition of drypoint prints. Join us for First Friday, a free community gathering celebrating art, music, and connection.
