A screening of “Look & See: A Portrait of Wendell Berry,” a cinematic portrait of the changing landscapes and shifting values of rural America in the era of industrial agriculture, as seen through the mind’s eye of writer, farmer, and activist, Wendell Berry.

The first documentary about Berry, “Look and See “was filmed in and around the rolling hills of Henry County, Kentucky – where Berry lived and farmed from the mid-1960s until his death in August 2026. Filmmaker Laura Dunn skillfully weaves Berry’s poetic and prescient words with gorgeous cinematography and the testimonies of his family and neighbors, all of whom are deeply affected by the industrial and economic changes to their agrarian way of life.

Often called “a prophet for rural America,” Berry has long been a voice for the communities that are so often overlooked by the media. The film immerses audiences into Berry’s world, providing a space for talking about the land and those who sustain it.

The film runs 82 minutes and will be followed by a virtual Q&A with Ben Aguilar, Director of Operations at The Berry Center, a Kentucky non-profit that puts Wendell Berry’s writings to work by advocating for farmers, land-conserving communities, and healthy regional economies. Aguilar will now be joining us via Zoom after the film to discuss the Berry Center’s work and take questions.

Presented in partnership with the Soldiers of the Soil Initiative, which connects military service with agrarian service—building practical pathways for veterans to care for soil, water, livestock, and rural communities.
