Blaine County Recreation District (BCRD) invites the community to join a free cross-country ski tour on the Wood River Trail on Saturday, February 8.
The Ski the Rails tour will start at 10:00 a.m. at Serenade Lane in Ketchum, or skiers can start anywhere along the Wood River Trail. The trail will be groomed for skate skiing and classic tracks will be set. After “skiing the rails,” skiers are invited to Sawtooth Brewery at 110 N River Street, Hailey, for beer and fries courtesy of BCRD.
Free shuttle buses will depart from Sawtooth Brewery in Hailey beginning at 9:30 a.m. The last bus north will depart at 2:45 p.m. Additionally, starting at 11:00 a.m., a shuttle bus will be available to bring skiers from the finish line at Myrtle Street in Hailey to Sawtooth Brewery. Well behaved, leashed dogs are allowed on the busses.
Aid stations along the route will provide snacks and beverages to keep skiers energized and warm. Aid station sponsors are BCRD, Galena Lodge, Backwoods Mountain Sports, and The Elephant’s Perch. Historical signs are in place along the trail for participants to learn about the area’s history as they ski.
