Artist Holly Holmquist spent the last six years navigating the healthcare system when an acute illness turned into a chronic one without end in sight. PATIENT, an eleven-minute video projection of images and text, is a moving and beautiful visual exploration of that experience. Following the presentation, Holly will join SVMoA curator Courtney Gilbert for a conversation about the work.

Sixth winter season spotlights Jon Kimura Parker with all-Brahms programs. The Sun Valley Music Festival presents its sixth Winter Season at the Argyros Performing Arts Center, from March 6 to 9. The 2024 Winter Season focuses on “The Romance of Brahms” and offers two chamber music programs specially curated by Music Director Alasdair Neale, featuring pianist Jon Kimura Parker — winner of the Gold Medal at the 1984 Leeds International Piano Competition — and string musicians from the all-star Sun Valley Music Festival Orchestra. Presented in an intimate atmosphere, the all-Brahms programs include beloved pieces by the Romantic composer for solo piano and string ensembles, such as Hungarian Dance No. 4 in F Minor, Quintet No. 1 in F Major, Trio No. 1 in B Major, and the inventive and technically demanding Handel Variations. The two unique programs will be performed on alternating evenings: the first on March 6 and 8, the second on March 7 and 9. The concerts will take place at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum, starting at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) The concerts are about two hours long, including a 20-minute intermission. Classic Flicks at HPL celebrates spring showers with a 1952 musical romantic comedy starring the light-footed Gene Kelly getting wet while showing off his famous dance steps with Debbie Reynolds. It is considered by many to be the greatest musical film ever made and one of the greatest movies of all time. The film will be shown at 6:00 PM at Town Center West, 116 S River St., in Hailey. The film explores the life and career of experimental artist Robert Irwin, whose installations have radically expanded the possibilities of what art can be. Irwin began as a painter in LA’s “Cool School” scene, before developing a new way of working that made perception itself the subject. Irwin’s notable works include the Central Garden at the Getty Center in LA and untitled (dawn to dusk) in Marfa, Texas. The film will be introduced by, Tom Michael, by Boise State Public Radio’s general manager. Michael was the founder and general manager of Marfa Public Radio and West Texas Public Radio. Prior to founding the station in 2005, Michael was a freelance writer and editor. He also served as an editor for Encyclopedia Britannica in the 1990s. He’s a 1991 graduate of Loyola University of Chicago.
Deceived by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, a 90-year-old woman sets out on a quest to reclaim what was taken from her. The feature directorial debut of Josh Margolin, THELMA is a poignant action-comedy that gives veteran Oscar® nominee June Squibb (NEBRASKA and star of Scarlett Johansson’s upcoming directorial debut ELEANOR THE GREAT) her first leading role and features the final performance of trailblazing actor Richard Roundtree (SHAFT). Squibb, who did most of her own stunts in the film, plays Thelma Post, a feisty 93-year-old grandmother who gets conned by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson (The White Lotus’ Fred Hechinger) and sets out on a treacherous quest across Los Angeles, accompanied by an aging friend (Roundtree) and his motorized scooter, to reclaim what was taken from her. Parker Posey, Clark Gregg, and Malcolm McDowell also star.
Classic Flicks @ Hailey Public Library concludes with the 1933, black and white classic starring the renowned Marx Brothers. One brother is the appointed leader of a small, financially struggling country; meanwhile, the ambassador of a nearby country plots a revolution. A masterpiece of comedy, it is considered their finest film. The free film showing will be held on Thursday, June 6, at 6:00 PM at Town Center West, 116 S River St., in Hailey.
