Blaine County Recreation District’s (BCRD) FitWorks fitness center invites you to embrace the “New Year, New You” spirit and take the first step toward reaching your goals with free classes and equipment. Whether you’re looking to try something new, build strength, improve flexibility, or boost your overall health, our supportive community and diverse offerings make it easier than ever to stay motivated. January 4-10, FitWorks is hosting an open house with free access to all classes and equipment. FitWorks is open from Monday to Thursday, 6:00 am to 7:00 pm, Fridays from 6:00am to 6:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. FitWorks boasts a wealth of classes catering to a broad spectrum of fitness enthusiasts including H.I.I.T., Yoga, Dance, Pilates, Barre, Spin and more! FitWorks memberships start at $25/month and special rates are available for students and seniors. Fitness classes are included with a FitWorks Plus membership or are $8 per class. “Learn to Knit” is a free, 4-week class co-taught by master knitters Patricia Lirk and Joanne Squire! The series will focus on the basics and participants will create a personal project. Classes will be held each Tuesday from 5:30-7:00 PM starting January 7 at the Library, 7 West Croy. Participants should bring their own yarn and needles. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Email kristin.fletcher@haileypubliclibrary.org or call 208-788-2036 to reserve your spot. “Knitting Circle” is an informal gathering facilitated by master knitters Patricia Lirk and Joanne Squire! It will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at the Library, 7 West Croy, from 5:30-7:00 PM, starting January 8. The Circle is suitable for all abilities. New this month - optional instruction in a cool advanced technique. Participants should bring their own yarn, needles and knitting project. Pre-registration is helpful. Join us every Tuesday 1:30 - 5:30pm - we host Waterwheel Gardens from Emmett. Currently, they are offering a killer apple cider and grape juice, along with their jams, dried fruits and a variety of Fall harvest vegetables. We also get weekly deliveries of raw cow milk, raw goat milk, and yogurt. NourishMe creates daily, nutrient-rich, organic, deli-style foods to go or eat in. Behind the Start Gate: World Cup Preparations with Riley Berman and Stacey Ehleringer

In anticipation of the World Cup ski finals returning to Sun Valley after a nearly 50 year hiatus, the Wood River Museum of History + Culture is offering a series of 3 "Behind the Scenes" talks about what goes into these races from course prep to ski prep to skiers experiences and commentating. The first evening will be on January 7 with Riley Berman, Sun Valley Resort’s competition services manager and chief of race course for the Alpine skiing World Cup Finals at Sun Valley. He'll give a behind the scenes insight on what it's taken to get a World Cup ski course ready for the top 25 skiers in the world. From installing new snowmaking, A-netting (he'll explain all about that), re-contouring and tree removal, many adjustments had to be made in an extremely short 8 month window. Riley is a born and bred local, he grew up ski racing in the Wood River Valley and has worked as a fishing guide and ran Rotarun ski area in Hailey prior to joining Sun Valley. Hooked on Salmon: Protecting the Run

Join us for a panel of local students involved with the Youth Salmon Protectors (YSP), a program of the Idaho Conservation League working to build a coalition of young people across the Northwest dedicated to honoring tribal treaties, breaching the Lower Snake River dams, and saving wild salmon and steelhead. The panel will each share perspectives on Idaho's salmon and take questions from the audience. Speakers will include students from Wood River High School and The Sage School: Leila Brickley, Fisher Hattula, Cora Ward, Sarah Leidecker, and Frances Camilli.

Introduction to Avalanches Presentation

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center for a 90 minute presentation based on the Know Before You Go platform, introducing basic concepts about snow, avalanches, and traveling safely in and near avalanche terrain. Learn from the Friends of SAC instructor team of snow experts, mountain guides, and experienced avalanche educators. We invite everyone to join if you’re learning about avalanches for the first time or are a seasoned backcountry user ready for a yearly refresher. There is a $15 suggested donation, no preregistration required. In addition to the presentation, The Friends also put on Introduction to Avalanche Field Days.
