Saturdays, November 2 – April 5, from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Co-work with a community of writers the first Saturday of each month for focused writing and craft discussions and connect to other writers from the Wood River Valley and beyond! All writing abilities and ages welcome. Join us in The Community Library’s Idaho Room, or online via Zoom. The Wood River Writers’ Groups are led by AJ Super, a local author with a trilogy of science fiction books published by a small traditional press. She is also a Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers’ Association (SFWA) member.

Sun Valley Tree Lighting Ceremony

Celebrate the start of the Holiday season with the annual Tree Lighting Celebration in the Sun Valley Village. Festivites include an appearance by Santa, live holiday music, free cookies and cocoa, and an outdoor bar. Festivities kick off at 5:30pm with the tree lighting at 6:00pm sharp! A live ice carving demo will take place near Village Station starting at 4pm.

WRHS Performing ArtsTheater, Community Campus

Footlight Dance and Sun Valley Music Festival Music Institute students will be spreading holiday cheer bringing a performance to the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus in Hailey, on Saturday, December 14, 7:00 pm, a free event. This annual collaborative event will have the dancers and musicians performing together! “Both programs are excited to bring the two arts disciplines together to perform for our 2nd year. For the dancers, we usually perform to pre-recorded music as live musicians are an expense we cannot afford to add onto our production costs, and for the musicians they rarely get the opportunity to play for dance. The experience brings challenges and rewards for both as they learn to pay closer attention to details from the conductor in regard to tempo, and the dancers must listen to the subtle differences of the final version from recorded to live.” A highlight of this program will be a solo danced by Footlight Company member, Romina Zavala, who is a Senior in High School. Wood River Orchestra Holiday Concert and Fundraiser

The Argyros

The Wood River Orchestra presents an afternoon of holiday cheer at the Argyros Performing Arts Center in Ketchum on December 15. The concert program will be packed with festive favorites, and the annual silent auction will offer an array of unique artistic pieces to be won. Doors open at 3pm for the silent auction in the lobby, and the concert will commence at 4pm. General admission is free as always, but seats must be reserved in advance with the Argyros in order to monitor numbers. Visit www.theargyros.org and keep an eye on the calendar to reserve when tickets go on sale. In addition to GA seating, a small number of cabaret tables right in front of the musicians are available. These tables seat four and cost $250 dollars - they must be booked as a whole table.

Full Moon Fat Bike Ride

Under the full moon we will explore the valley by fat bikes! Monthly from November through March we will meet at 6pm to enjoy an evening ride on the full month. Nourish Me Tuesday Farmers’ Market

“The 23rd Hero” with Rebecca Anne Nguyen

Author Rebecca Anne Nguyen joins us to discuss her new novel, "The 23rd Hero": On the verge of being forced to live in an underground bunker due to climate crisis, an ordinary woman with an extraordinary memory is recruited for a time travel program to stop environmental disasters before they happen. But when she falls in love with the program's mysterious founder, she must learn to believe in herself and her abilities before she's sent to sixteenth century France with no way to save the world or return to the man she loves. Nguyen will share an excerpt from the book, talk about her writing, and take your questions. A book signing will follow. Rebecca Anne Nguyen (she/her) is the winner of the 2024 Reader's Choice Award for Best Adult Book (Bronze) for her debut novel, "The 23rd Hero," and the recipient of the 2019 Foreword Indies Award (Silver) for the memoir "Where War Ends." Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Insider, and Slackjaw, among others. She lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Nature Journaling

An intimate journey into the sketchbook world and how drawing can offer a moment of stillness and peace within an often chaotic world. Led by artist Leslie Rego. Thursdays, December 5-19 and January 16-23 (five Thursdays). Registration required. This workshop series offers a welcoming and supportive space for people interested in drawing the natural world. The focus will be on nature journaling. Prompts will be offered as well as guidance. Each session we will jump down a “rabbit hole” and study in depth one plant or landscape element or learn about different brushes, paints, papers, and other art supplies. A list of recommended supplies will be sent to registered participants. Leslie Rego has drawn in journals for years. She carries sketchbooks and paints with her while enjoying the national forest and will take time to draw and paint landscapes and flowers on her many hikes. Leslie wrote the "Sketchbook Hiking" article in The Weekly Sun for many years. She has artwork in private collections, The Sun Valley Lodge and around the world.

Introduction to Avalanches Presentation

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center for a 90 minute presentation based on the Know Before You Go platform, introducing basic concepts about snow, avalanches, and traveling safely in and near avalanche terrain. Learn from the Friends of SAC instructor team of snow experts, mountain guides, and experienced avalanche educators. We invite everyone to join if you’re learning about avalanches for the first time or are a seasoned backcountry user ready for a yearly refresher. No registration is needed for the presentation. This event will be in person but will also be live-streamed!
