Ultimate Wine Tasting Challenge hosted by Gary Hoffman

Sun Valley Culinary Institute

A one of a kind wine tasting experience is yours at the Culinary Institute Wednesday, April 12th.  8-10 different (varietal, based on grape used) wines will challenge wine lovers both ‘expert' and amateur to identify the grape used.  Served in a brown bag (and silence!) there will be 4 excellent whites and 4 reds to check off against a printed list that includes tasting characteristics of each wine. Gary Hoffman is representing the Advisory Board in hosting this event as a benefit for the SVCI,  "In 40 years of wine tastings, never have I seen this entertaining and educational approach taken".  Wine tastings typically ask participants to rank wines based on their preferences among them.  In this exciting version, “The Ultimate Wine Tasting Challenge”, a prize and a trophy will be awarded to the person most successfully identifying the grapes including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and others…2 tiebreaker wines have been selected to be used as needed. Space is quite limited so applicants are urged to register quickly on the SVCI website, sunvalleyculinary.org

Earth Day screening of: The Biggest little Farm

Hailey Town Center West

This beautifully filmed story takes a look into one young couple’s efforts to make a living on the farm of their dreams.  On the journey from turning dirt and clay clods into rich, nutritive soil and pigs that are rescued from Ugly Betty to beloved Emma, the film takes us through 5 years of the many tribulations, joys and surprises of working to rebuilding their land to create a beautiful farm that also rebuilds our earth.   Even if you’ve seen the film before, come enjoy it again!  There’s a good chance you’ll see something new to help jump start your own spring yard plans.  Even the smallest plot of land is a necessary piece of the planet that we look to for clean air, water, plants, and animals that we depend on to sustain us all.

Earth Day Food Resilience – Seed and Plant Exchange

Grange Hall

The Wood River Seed Library (WRSL) and the Grange celebrate Earth Day with its annual Seed & Plant Exchange. Local gardeners are invited to come and share seeds and plants. The event is an opportunity to meet other local gardeners, get inspired to grow delicious and nutritious food for your family, flowers that attract pollinators, and indoor and outdoor plants that beautify our home and landscape, feed us, and/or feed the pollinators. This year we especially celebrate medicinal plants, the precious ones that are healing and tonifying for our body and soul, and deserve a space in our personal medicine cabinets. These same plants are also food and medicine for the wild animals, or our pets. Bring your own saved seeds, potted plants and starts, and dig-up perennials from your gardens to share with the community. Or come as a volunteer to help out with the event! Cool season vegetable gardening starts in the spring. Although there is still snow on the ground, the garlic, daffodils, parsley and spinach, among others, just want to peak up towards the spring sunshine. Spring is the time to make indoor or greenhouse starts, prepare our growing beds, raised beds and pots, so they are ready ...
