Introduction to Avalanches Field Day

Ketchum Fire Station

Join the Friends of the Sawtooth Avalanche Center instructors for a field day covering avalanche rescue basics, snowpack layering, avalanche terrain identification, and basic backcountry travel. Please note- you need to have attended a Friends’ Introduction to Avalanches presentation prior to participating in the field day. There is a $50 suggested donation to the Friends of SAC to cover instructor costs. Donations can be made on www.sawtoothavalanche.com (click the donate button) or via Venmo @sawtooth-avalanche. On your donation, please note that this is in conjunction with a field day. Thank you! We use a pre-registration system for courses due to high demand. Please sign up for a field day using this Field Day Sign Up Form: https://forms.gle/hBY2drU2uekEo6jd6 We will send out more information about the course in the week leading up to it. We will meet at the Ketchum Fire Station and then spend the day near the SNRA or on Galena Pass. River Run Lodge

Join us for a complimentary Bald Mountain Tour, offered every Monday, Wednesday & Friday throughout the winter season. Tours meet at 9:30am in the Mountain View Room at River Run Lodge and are guided by one of the friendly members of our Mountain Guest Services team (yellow coats). They will guide you around Bald Mountain’s vast terrain, share where the best skiing and riding is and wow you with some amazing historical facts about Sun Valley. Tours are open for all ski levels.

Neighborly Spanish is a free, 8-week class taught on Mondays from noon-1:30 PM by retired local Spanish teacher Jim King. The class will offer basic Spanish language skills seasoned with a little history and culture. Enrollment limited to 20. Classes are on Mondays, starting January 22 through March 18. Join is for our Ski with a Ranger tours on Bald Mountain every Tuesday and Thursday this winter season. A Forest Service ranger meets interested guests at the Bald Mountain Map near Sun Valley’s Lookout Restaurant. The tour lasts a pleasant hour while skiing the mountain making three stops for the ranger to give his talk. Topics covered include a wealth of interesting information about local history, geography, geology, the Bald Mountain Stewardship program, expansion plans and local public lands.

Footlight Dance Company presents “WATER IS LIFE – Treat it Right”

Footlight Dance Company presents its annual school enrichment tour throughout Blaine County, providing shows to most Blaine County school students during a 2 week period. FREE show open to the public, Wednesday, January 31, 9:30 am. With the use of concert dance forms: ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip hop this performance will inspire students to see winter sports in a new way – thru the dance arts.  “WATER IS LIFE – Treat it Right” – a collaboration of dance styles, bringing awareness to need to protect our water in Idaho, the U.S. and world.
