Kane Summit Volunteer Event

Where: Kane Summit When: Saturday, August 10th 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM, Lunch @ 12:30pm Difficulty: Easy/Moderate Project Description: We will be working on some drainage structures, and trail tread. Primary work location is in a nice shady area about a 1/4 mile hike from the Trailhead. What to bring/wear: Closed toe/ankle supporting shoes and pants will be required. We recommend bringing your own eye protection/sunglasses, work gloves and sunscreen. A small pack is nice to have for water, layers and a snack. No dogs please. What we will provide: LUNCH! Tools, required PPE available for use: hard hats, eye protection, gloves etc. Bike helmets are not an appropriate substitute. RSVP:Yes please! 24 hours in advance helps us out a lot! Waivers below. Directions: Go North West on Sun Valley Rd from main street Ketchum. You will stay on Sun Valley Rd which turns into Trail Cr Rd for 12.2 miles until you come to the summit of Trail Cr where there is a turnout on the right. Participants will make fabric patches that will become part of a sculpture the artist is creating for an exhibition at SVMoA in the summer of 2025. Perseid-Palooza! with 2024 Astronomer in Residence Lauren Osburn

Join Us for the Perseid-Palooza! Hailey Public Library, Central Idaho Dark Sky Alliance and The Sage School will host 2024 Astronomer in Residence Lauren Osburn for a free nighttime observing session on Saturday, August 10, from 9:30-11:30 PM at the TSS campus, 1810 Quigley Farm Road in Hailey. See the Perseid Meteor Shower, deep sky objects, waxing crescent moon and spectacular summer constellations.  Boise State University AstroTAC team members and local astronomers will share cool telescopes and constellation lore.  In case of inclement weather, Sunday, August 11, is back up date. WORKSHOP: Watercolor Sketching Intensive—For Those on the Go! WITH JIM CALDWELL

Sun Valley Museum of Art

Awaken your creativity. In this 8-day intensive, learn to draw and paint: first in ink, then in watercolor. Capture travel scenes in a pocket sketchbook with Prismacolor and ink, draw and paint from still life setups as well as from projected images. Each 3-hour class will start with a slide show of watercolors by favorite artists and end with a group critique. Treasure the souvenirs! All materials and supplies will be provided. Age & ability: 17+, beginners welcome! THIS 8-SESSION WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE MON–THU, AUG 5–8 AND AUG 12–15, FROM 10AM–1PM DAILY. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Jim Caldwell graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major and spent the next year in Paris studying printing and etching at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. In 1969, he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. Jim has had over 45 one-man shows, and his paintings are represented in more than 450 collections worldwide. Though he has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area, Jim’s Sun Valley connections go back to the 1950s. This will be the fourth class he has taught in Sun Valley.
