WORKSHOP: Beginning Drawing Intensive

THIS 8-SESSION WORKSHOP WILL TAKE PLACE MON–THU, AUG 7–10 AND AUG 14–17, FROM 9AM–12PM DAILY. Get out your sketch book! With emphasis on observational skills and hand-eye coordination, this 8-day workshop will explore graded tones, line, negative space, perspective, and shadows. Each day, examine a different still life as you develop fundamental drawing skills and increased confidence to draw. The classes are cumulative and open to beginning students as well as those who want to refresh their skills. Age & ability: 17 and older, beginners welcome! SVMoA and Jim will provide all the materials necessary for the class (included in the enrollment cost). ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR Born in New York, Jim Caldwell has spent most of his life in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated from Williams College in 1964 as an Art Major and spent the next year in Paris studying printing and etching at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. In 1969 he received his Master of Architecture Degree from the Yale School of Architecture. Jim has had over 45 solo shows and his paintings are represented in more than 450 collections worldwide. $500 member / $550 nonmember

Tasks include harvesting, planting, weeding, and flower bouquet making! Fresh vegetables shared with everyone each session. Thursdays, beginning June 8th, lunch served 11:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Pick up your lunch or stay awhile at the Library's Cimino Plaza, outside the Children’s Library Entrance at 4th and Walnut (the program will move indoors to the Learning Commons during inclement weather). Come enjoy a nutritious and convenient lunch while engaging with other community members over interesting literature. Lunch registration is required.

Free Casting Clinics with Silver Creek Outfitters

Learn to fly cast, or brush up on your double haul technique with one of our fun and experienced guides. These casting clinics are for anyone who is curious or just a little rusty. Clinics will run Tuesday through Saturday at the Sun Valley Resort from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm throughout the summer. Equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. The Wood Brothers and the Infamous Stringdusters

On the heels of their eighth studio album, “Heart is the Hero,” The Wood Brothers, an American roots band consisting of brother Chris (of Medeski Martin & Wood fame) and Oliver Wood and multi-instrumentalist Jano Rix, will come to the Sun Valley Pavilion. For the better part of two decades, The Wood Brothers – dubbed “masters of soulful folk” – have cemented their reputation as freethinking songwriters, road warriors and community builders, creating a catalog of diverse music and a loyal audience. The Infamous Stringdusters will open for The Wood Brothers. The Grammy –Award-winning, five-person bluegrass band is known for bringing progressive modernism to bluegrass music while playing in the heart of it. The five band members Travis Book (bass), Andy Falco (guitar), Jeremy Garrett (fiddle), Andy Hall (Dobro) and Chris Pandolfi (banjo) will be sharing with the audience songs from “Toward the Frey,” their latest album, where they wrote songs separately, sending simple phone demos to each other during lockdown. $45 member / $55 nonmember / $22.50 student

Jump on the Mountain Rides Blue Route from the Visitor Center in Ketchum for a one-hour free bus tour highlighting the area's rich heritage. Guided by local volunteers. The Mountain Rides Blue Route leaves the Visitor Center at 10:15 am and returns in one hour after traveling to Warm Springs, back to downtown Ketchum, out to Sun Valley and Elkhorn, and back to the Visitor Center. Space on the Mountain Rides bus is limited to 20 Sun Valley Story Tour passengers so we encourage early sign-ups at the Visitor Center Register in advance for this tour by calling 208.726.3423, via email: info@visitsunvalley.com or in person at the Visitor Center at 491 Sun Valley Road, Ketchum.
