Wood River Trail

BCRD welcomes the community to enjoy free Nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails. The 32-kilometer multi-use Wood River Trail, which runs from Ketchum to Bellevue, is always free. The Wood River Trail is groomed every other day and is open to skiers, walkers, dogs, and fat-bikes. The Ski Free Days for the 2024/25 season are: Saturday, December 14 Sunday, January 12 Saturday, February 22

Leather is a living material that with care and repair can last forever. Create your own tote bag and accessories in a class with cowboy boot maker Morgan Buckert. Build your own accessories that will last a lifetime out of Horween American-tanned leather seconds. Participant will hand-stitch a tote bag, perfect for everyday use and create additional accessories, like a key chain or wallets from the leather remnants. This leather with small blemishes has been rejected by larger companies, but can be manipulated to create the highest quality products that you will be proud to carry. Age & Ability: 18+, beginners welcome! This is a two-day workshop that takes place Saturday, February 22, and Sunday, February 23 from 10am-4pm at the Hailey Classroom. About the Instructor Morgan Buckert builds custom cowboy boots in her Hailey, Idaho workshop. Using traditional techniques and vintage machinery, Morgan builds cowboy boots and leather goods meant to last a lifetime.

Steve Porino, NBC Sports Broadcaster and former alpine ski racer, will talk about what it takes to be a commentator on the world cup ski races - and what gets covered or not, in the US. From his days as a ski racer then moving into commentating on the Outdoor Life Network. Steve has made a career of ski racing, and more recently, being the on motorcycle commentator for the Tour de France. His insights are incomparable into what is happening on the World Cup circuit from who's hot, what new tech gear is needed, and what we might see on TV during the World Cup in Sun Valley. Joining Steve on stage for questions and conversation will be Jake Moe, founder of POWDER magazine. This program is in-person only. Please join us for an eye-opening conversation with Jennifer Garrison, PhD, a passionate and vocal advocate for healthy aging in women. Dr. Garrison is pioneering a global movement to advance and translate research science focused on how ovaries impact women's health across their lives. Ovaries are the architects of health and the pacemaker for aging in female bodies. Women’s health has long been sidelined, garnering barely 10% of research dollars and 4% of biopharma investment while impacting over half the global population. A tiny fraction of that – less than 0.1% -- has been applied to study ovarian aging, arguably the most important but simultaneously the most neglected topic affecting women’s health and wellbeing. While women outlive men by a few years on average, they also experience a disproportionately longer period of poor health because ovaries age faster than other tissues. Understanding this process is key to enhancing women's healthspan. This isn't about reproduction – it's about revolutionizing how we understand and support women's health at every age, from before puberty through the end of life. Snowshoe with a Ranger

Galena Lodge

Learn about the history of the old Galena mining camp and about the local animals who leave their tracks in the snow during a free Snowshoe with a Ranger tour. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is offering free snowshoe tours at 11 a.m. Thursdays through March 6th and at 10am March 13 & 20th, leaving from the porch of Galena lodge. The snowshoe trip lasts about two hours, covering 1.5 miles with stops along the way. Tour-goers will learn about the winter ecology and more during the tour. A free one-day Blaine County Recreation district snowshoe pass will be provided. Snowshoes can be rented at Galena Lodge. Snowshoers are advised to dress warmly in layers, wear insulated waterproof boots, gloves, hats,  sunglasses and sunscreen. Dogs and other pets are not allowed on these particular tours. No reservations are necessary. To learn more, call the SNRA at 208-727-5000.
