WORKSHOP: Basic Drawing Skills with Anne Aganon

Join SVMoA Studio Coordinator Anne Aganon to learn basic drawing skills and shading techniques. Over a series of evenings, work from mannequins and still life set-ups to improve your drawing skills with a focus on the human figure and learn more about different drawing media. Use this time in January to prepare for the Open Studios: Figure Drawing or Open Studios: Printmaking sessions starting in February. Pre-registration for each class is recommended; walk-ins accommodated if space is available. Age & ability: 16 and older, all skill levels welcome! Boulder Mountain Tour

The 52st annual Zions Bank Boulder Mountain tour is February 1, 2025! This is the premier cross-country race in the Western United States, the Tour is staged on the historic Harriman Trail located in the pristine Sawtooth National Forest Area. Race distances are 34 kilometers, the Full Boulder, and 15 kilometers, the Charley Course Half Boulder. The field features World Cup-caliber racers to cross-country enthusiasts who embrace the “Tour” aspect of the event. All ages are welcome. Racers are separated by waves, including Elite Men, and Elite Women, seeded by previous race times in the BMT or comparable marathon distance races. There are seven waves in the Full Boulder. This year, the in-person race field will be capped at 800 skiers for the Full Boulder, and 200 skiers in the Half. Event Series Snowshoe with a Ranger

Snowshoe with a Ranger

Galena Lodge

Learn about the history of the old Galena mining camp and about the local animals who leave their tracks in the snow during a free Snowshoe with a Ranger tour. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is offering free snowshoe tours at 11 a.m. Thursdays through March 6th and at 10am March 13 & 20th, leaving from the porch of Galena lodge. The snowshoe trip lasts about two hours, covering 1.5 miles with stops along the way. Tour-goers will learn about the winter ecology and more during the tour. A free one-day Blaine County Recreation district snowshoe pass will be provided. Snowshoes can be rented at Galena Lodge. Snowshoers are advised to dress warmly in layers, wear insulated waterproof boots, gloves, hats,  sunglasses and sunscreen. Dogs and other pets are not allowed on these particular tours. No reservations are necessary. To learn more, call the SNRA at 208-727-5000. WORKSHOP: Beginning Fly-Tying with James Gillespie

Introduction to Fly-Tying is designed for the beginner with no or minimal experience looking to tie their own flies. In this two-class series, instructor James Gillespie will teach students how to tie classic flies as he shares his knowledge of fly-tying tools, materials, and basic techniques. Participants will leave with the flies they create and the ability to tie a basic fly pattern. All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience is necessary. If participants have any of their fly-tying tools, they are welcome to bring them. Age and ability: 16+ years old and beginners welcome This 2-session workshop takes place Thu, Jan 30 6–8pm and Thu, Feb 6, 6–8pm at the Hailey Classroom. All supplies will be provided by SVMoA. About the instructor: James Gillespie is a self-taught fisherman who has been fishing his entire life. Tying his own flies has always been a part of his love of fishing, and he looks forward to sharing what he knows with interested students.

LITERACY/CREATIVITY – Footlight Dance Company

Footlight Dance Company’s 2024-25 Dance Enrichment Tour in our Schools will take place January 23 - February 4, 2025. A free community performance will take place - Thursday, January 30, 2025 at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus - Hailey, Idaho. 7:00 pm Our program this year is entitled “LITERACY - CREATIVITY”. Our performance tour will address the importance of reading to tell our stories of the past, present and future. Under the direction of Hilarie Neely, Artistic Director of Footlight Dance Company, the dancers will use the genres of ballet, modern, tap, jazz and hip hop dance to interpret the power of reading. Our hope is to bring awareness of how movement, visual arts, and reading work together to share and connect us through story telling. We are also excited to be working with The Community Library, Children’s Library on this project. Both DeAnn Campbell and Haley Christianson are working outreaches to local schools that will include curriculum resources to enhance student responses.
