Terrance Marling’s Twice (Once) is set to the gorgeous music of contemporary composer Anna Clyne’s Within Her Arms. This is a subtle yet stirring piece that contemplates the afterlife, drawn from personal experiences of both composer and choreographer. Clyne wrote this piece of music honoring the passing of her mother, and Marling’s response drew upon his own near-death experience as a child. While the inspiration explores images of mortality and afterlife, this work is an uplifting and poignant abstraction of the human spirit. Danielle Rowe created For Pixie, inspired by the life and love of her own grandparents. In this powerful duet to the music of Nina Simone’s Wild is the Wind, Rowe explores the emotional interdependence between two lifelong companions embodied in captivating ...
