Open Book: A Pocketful of Pixie Dust

The Community Library

Open Book is a story sharing experience where trained "Books" share their stories in small groups. The Open Book storytellers come from a variety of countries, cultures, religious affiliations, sexual orientations, and ability statuses. Open Book can be used to honor differences, see similarities and enhance empathy as Books share stories from their messy and beautiful lives. After the story sharing, the Books facilitate a discussion around common themes and ideas that arise from their stories. In this way, participants get to actually have a conversation with the Books as if they were talking to an author of a story. Join The Community Library as we hear from JJ Singh Kapur, who will share this project and his own story with us. The Bollywood movies JJ Kapur watched as a child were all about heroes and villains. The off-screen superhero in JJ's life was his father, who carried with him a pocketful of pixie dust wherever he went. But when JJ returned home from college, he wondered whether his father's pixie dust had disappeared. JJ Kapur graduated from Stanford University with Honors and Distinction in Theater and Performance Studies and aminor in Psychology. In 2017, he became the first turbaned ...

8600FT: An Evening with Athlete/ Producer Braydon Bringhurst

The Argyros

Braydon Bringhurst sets out to climb every inch of mountain biking’s iconic trail: “The Whole Enchilada.” Husband. Father. Son. Friend. Professional mountain biker and filmmaker. From a young age, Braydon has loved the process of figuring out a challenge and proving to himself he can accomplish what he sets out to do. Inspired by his family and friends, many of whom are dealing with figurative mountains, in life both big and small, Braydon wanted to show the process of making it up what many would say is an unfathomable climb. Having worked closely with Dr. Craig Manning, a renowned performance psych, throughout his collegiate athletic and academic career, Braydon learned something he wanted to share with others: It’s just as much about the mental strength as it is the physical. With his wife and friends rallying behind him, and putting forth great efforts, we present to you ‘8600 FT.’ Braydon will give a short presentation following the film to discuss how he applied the mental skills learned through his work with Dr. Craig Manning to develop a fearless mind and accomplish his goal. A benefit for The Ketchum Bike Park Trust.
