James Chronister: And we are green…
Ochi GalleryOCHI is pleased to present And we are green, greener than the hill, where flowers grow and the sun shines still, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Montana-based artist James Chronister. This marks Chronister’s debut solo presentation with the gallery. The exhibition will be on view at OCHI, located at 119 Lewis Street in Ketchum, Idaho from July 13 through August 17, 2024. And we are green, greener than the hill, where flowers grow and the sun shines still features James Chronister’s deeply intricate, monochromatic landscape paintings. Composing straight on images of dense winter forests, close ups of individual leaves, and aerial images of flora, Chronister begins his process by photographing the environment surrounding his home in Missoula, Montana. After digitally distorting contrast, focus, and tones, Chronister moves from computer to canvas where minuscule individual marks reveal scrupulous technical application. Onto a white or carefully hued off-white background, Chronister meticulously recreates source photographs by repeatedly applying, shaping, and erasing black oil paint. Precise dry brushing and stippling techniques achieve texture, depth, and refinements of form. As painter Jake Longstreth remarks, “Chronister achieves a startling range of tonality and depth. Renowned Chef's Britt Rescigno & Kinsey Leodler will attend The Market. The Market will kick off on Friday, July 26, in the evening with a “sneak peek” of makers, and continue on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28th, with music all weekend by local DJs, food and libations available. The main focus throughout the weekend is the maker or seller of vintage goods, and local chefs. Our aim to bring together some of the best Independent Makers, vintage collectors, chefs and to provide a fun and memorable weekend. Sun Valley PavilionThe Sun Valley Music Festival proudly announces its landmark 40th-anniversary season, from July 29 to August 22, at the Sun Valley Pavilion. Curated by Music Director Alasdair Neale, the 2024 summer season will feature the all-star Festival Orchestra — which comprises the finest musicians from orchestras throughout North America — performing with a stellar lineup of world-renowned guest artists that includes violinist Leonidas Kavakos, pianists Stephen Hough and Garrick Ohlsson, soprano Meechot Marrero, and cellist Jeffrey Zeigler. To celebrate 40 years of free classical music concerts, the 2024 Summer Season includes two world premieres commissioned by the Festival: a cello concerto by the Pulitzer Prize finalist and multi-Grammy-nominated composer Andy Akiho, performed by former Kronos Quartet cellist Jeffrey Zeigler; and a season-opening fanfare by Timothy Higgins, Principal Trombone of the San Francisco Symphony. Stephanie Childress returns as Associate Conductor to lead several performances, including Mozart’s Symphony No. 36 (Linz), Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries, and Rossini’s William Tell overture. Olympian Statue Unveiling- Kaitlyn Farrington 2014 SOCHI
Festival MeadowJoin the Idaho Women's Athletic Foundation, and local community members for the unveiling of the most recent bronze statue at Festival Meadows , Sun Valley. Created by the nationally recognized artist, Ben Victor, this statue will represent the pride, talent, and athleticism of Bellevue local, Kaitlyn Farrington. Farrington pulled off the biggest achievement of her career to date when she beat the three previous Olympic champions to win the women’s snowboard halfpipe gold at Sochi 2014. Tuesday, July 30th from 2pm-4pm the IWAF will hold a brief reception with complimentary snacks and beverages to celebrate the athletic achievements of Kaitlyn Farrington. This statue is just the next installment of many in the organizations project to memorialize and celebrate all the athletic talent that has spawned from this small community.
