Join is for our Ski with a Ranger tours on Bald Mountain every Tuesday and Thursday this winter season. A Forest Service ranger meets interested guests at the Bald Mountain Map near Sun Valley’s Lookout Restaurant. The tour lasts a pleasant hour while skiing the mountain making three stops for the ranger to give his talk. Topics covered include a wealth of interesting information about local history, geography, geology, the Bald Mountain Stewardship program, expansion plans and local public lands.

River Run Lodge

Join us for a complimentary Bald Mountain Tour, offered every Monday, Wednesday & Friday throughout the winter season. Tours meet at 9:30am in the Mountain View Room at River Run Lodge and are guided by one of the friendly members of our Mountain Guest Services team (yellow coats). They will guide you around Bald Mountain’s vast terrain, share where the best skiing and riding is and wow you with some amazing historical facts about Sun Valley. Tours are open for all ski levels.

Wood River Trail

BCRD is excited to collaborate with Hailey Public Library and The Community Library to bring StoryWalk© to the Wood River Trail. From February 15 to February 22, weather permitting, this unique activity will merge the joy of reading with the beauty of the outdoors, providing a delightful experience for families and individuals alike. StoryWalk© will be set up along two sections of the Wood River Trail. In Hailey, you can enjoy the story between Fox Acres Road and Woodside Boulevard and in Ketchum between 6th Street and Wood River Drive. As you ski, walk, or bike along these paths, you'll encounter a different book in each location, displayed page by page. In Hailey, the featured book is "Over the River and Through the Wood" by Emma Randall, while in Ketchum, visitors can enjoy "Just One Flake" by Travis Jonker. Each page will be presented in both English and Spanish, offering an inclusive reading experience.

Galena Lodge

Learn about the history of the old Galena mining camp and about the local animals who leave their tracks in the snow during a free Snowshoe with a Ranger tour. The Sawtooth National Recreation Area is offering free snowshoe tours at 11 a.m. Thursdays through March 21 leaving from the porch of Galena lodge. The snowshoe trip lasts about two hours, covering 1.5 miles with stops along the way. Tour-goers will learn about the winter ecology and more during the tour A free one-day Blaine County Recreation district snowshoe pass will be provided. Snowshoes can be rented at Galena Lodge. Snowshoers are advised to dress warmly in layers, wear insulated waterproof boots, gloves, hats,  sunglasses and sunscreen. Dogs and other pets are not allowed on these particular tours. No reservations are necessary. To learn more, call the SNRA at 208-727-5000. Extreme Ski Joring

Join us February 17 & 18 for Wood River Extreme Skijoring! Produced by the Wood Extreme Ski Joring Association (WRESJA), the event features cowboys with their fast horses racing with brave skiers and snowboarders and promises a weekend of fast-action fun that the whole family will enjoy. Ski Joring is a winter sport in which a person on skis is pulled by a horse, a dog or a motor vehicle. It is derived from the Norwegian word skikjøring, meaning “ski driving”. In the Wood River Valley horses are used. The WRESJA races will take place at 81 Browning Lane in Bellevue on Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18, starting at 12noon each day.  There is an admission fee of $10 per spectator, with children 12 and under free, and a portion of the fees with be donated to the Wood River High School Rodeo Team. Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs but dogs are not allowed. This family-friendly weekend event will also feature concessions at the races, a raffle to support a local area non-profit and evening events that include a team auction on Saturday night, 6:30 p.m. at Mahoney’s Bar & Grill in Bellevue and awards party on Sunday night, 5:30 p.m. at 7 Fuego restaurant in Gannett. ...
